I would say I am very impressed with the power all the way through the range, it is no race car off the line, but compared to my 21' class c with a 351, it feels like a rocket. When the turbo spools up in second gear and beyond, it feels pretty neat. I am planning a trip to Alaska next summer, maybe we can set up a test drive for you in route.

I would love to check out your coach. We did 3 months in Alaska the summer before last and had a ball. Maybe we could even set up a west coast moho get together.

It may take me a while to get there, but count me in.

mayco, I don't know it you're on the right track, but I'm sure going to find out. I'm think with the cummins 15-2500 rpm is a safe operating rpm. Mine starts de-fueling above 2500 rpm. But then I'm still working on it.

Once again I came home long enough to play with the 'Silver Bullet'.

Reprogrammed the TCU to shift at 2550 RPM. Rewired the TPS and it's reading to the TCU. Got the new gauges all hooking back up and fired her up.
1-The hardware store ferrules don't work on the 1/8" gauge tube.... They leak.
2- the left pump pressure goes to 'zero' on full throttle which take the high end out of the acceleration.

Guess I'll go to O'Relley's and get the right ferrules and a new lift pump tomorrow.

After checking with O'Relley's-$95 and looking on amazon- $34. I'm thinking the $34 is the one for me.

Got an notice from Amazon that the fuel pump should arrive between April 19 and May 4 last week. It was in my mail box that very day.

Taking the old off required little effort. I noticed it had been replaced before as who ever did the job has the same problem is I do.... loose the bolt. One bolt is original and the other hardware bought. They also used some kind of prema-gasket that was wanting to stay. Needless to say it was an all day job.

Still need to get a new hose that goes between the strainer and the pump. May local O'riellys don't have a listing for it so that's another visit with the local (30 miles away) Cummiins parts guy with engine s/n in hand.

Low Oil Pressure 6BT

When I picked up my 310, I was very concerned with the oil pressure.
It read about 25PSI at 2000RPM and maybe 5PSI at Idle.
I finally had a chance to poke around online a few nights ago, and someone had a similar experience which he caused by installing the wrong oil cooler gasket. I picked up the proper Cummins gasket for my engine today, pulled the oil cooler apart tonight in the rain, and sure enough, wrong gasket. oil pressure up to 50 PSI at idle, I am a happy guy.

Oil Pressure on this one runs a little under 40 psi from idle up. Maybe that's one thing right.

The last time I test drive my 'Silver Bullet' I backed it into the side of my shop. Took out an electric box, 50A RV plug and wounded the left rear panel. DANG IT!

Been fighting the low max rpm. I kept believing it to a fuel delivery problem. That being said, I found two 55 gallon barrels, washed with soap/water, power washed then dried. Used the Holley 'blue' pump to transfer from tank to barrels.

Took all of 33 minutes to fill the first barrel. When I pulled the drain plug and no fuel came out...... Amazing!!!
Dropped the tank, pulled the gas injector pump, put a piece of rubber hose on the end of the tube, then the hard part.... Getting this monster back up there!!!!
Relocated the frame filter with the Holley 'blue' pump and 5 psi regulator onto the plate in front of the tank. Decided to draw the fuel off the bottom of the tank with the shutout valve so I can change the filter w/o clapping the hose.

With all back together another test drive. Same resolute: At about 1900 rpm it quits pulling. Will climb to about 2100. I have the shift point set at 2450.
Back to the shop w/o hitting shop wall this time. Still thinking it's not getting fuel I pull the fuel line off the engine to check the flow. It fills a 5 gallon bucket in 8 minutes.
Is it time to start throwing matches at this thing!!!!!
Stop by and talk to a guy that's a lot smarter than me and tell him my tale. He says it running like a Dodge Cummins should. Need to replace the fuel pin, cam plate, 60 hp injector, and put a 3000 rpm governor spring in it. Except for the in-tank pump not pumping, I've been chasing my tail for the last 3 months
Got another month long trip across the big pond coming up next week, so I'm making a note and tacking in to the windshield so as to remember what I do next.

Don't give up, I had the opportunity to put about 100 miles on mine this weekend, it is an absolute joy to drive with this powertrain. I think my governor stops me about 2300-2500 RPM, I know I can go faster than any posted speed limit by 2300 RPM, like I previously posted, 70MPH=2000RPM, I would be closing in on 85-90MPH at 2300 RPM my 6BT is very happy at 2000 RPM, Don't forget about your turbo, that is for hills, Downshifting is for very steep mountain grades only. Again, don't give up, your reward is just around the corner.

Where did I leave off at?

I'm back from checking out Europe. Hate those 9 hour flights. Hate TSA too.... And that is a different subject... Boy I feel SOOOOOO safe with them on duty
I did look at 'my project' today. Decided it's too hot to do anything except in the early morning and I've go a whole list of need to does in the early morning.
Did order the 3000rpm governor spring, fuel plate and fuel pin. Hope to get them next week sometime. I've done something to the wiring: electronic speedometer don't work and the fuel gauge is off somewhere other than the sender. I just hate to get into that spaghetti of a dash as much as to deal with TSA.
More to come.... I hope

What's with the 'checking your browser'????? Must not like the newest firefox.

I'm with you on the "checking your browser"???? And I use Safari.

My guess…… the TSA is somehow involved.

I'm back!!!
I kept waiting for the governor springs and # 8 fuel plate I ordered from a local shop. After a couple month I went on line a got them.
Then I was too hot to work on it.

After finding where the governor springs go, they were easy to install. I lost one of the old spacer washer somewhere in the frame, but then I don't plan to go back. The fuel plate goes in under that mess of wires. The 'no tamper' bolt was gone, so, the PO had been in the fuel pump. That could be more demons to fight.
When I drive it, couldn't keep a positive fuel pressure at full throttle. So, I got an 'Airdog II' and deleted the Holley.

The boost gauge only show 11 psi boost..... Should be 27-30.... Rats!!
It smokes really BAD. Started turning the 'star nut' in the IP back to control the smoke. Ran out of adjustment and the smoke quit.

I call the guy I bought the 3300 rpm governor kit from. He thinks I have an air leak, "pressurize the whole air inlet, start at 10 psi and work up". Now I need to plug off a 6" hole and pump air in at 10 pounds? I go to the diesel shop, he's got a 'smoke maker' just for that.
The Silver Bullet and I were at his shop before it opened this morning. With his help(and $$$) the cause is found. Not a big enough bead on the intercooler to keep the hose on. He welds more bead on the flanges and now the boost gauge is pegged out above 20 psi. Need to over up the 'star nut' some now to let more fuel in too.
So, after almost a year, I'm highway bound!!!!
At 70 mph it's turning about 2200 rpm. I'm somewhat surprised it's not that much of a noise maker, but do plan to get exhaust manifold blanket and oil pan blanket
Still to fix/make work:
1] fuel gauge
2] dash a/c
3] cruise control
4] replace oil pan
I have a full tank and the o-meter is on zero. Time to see what this baby will do.

I hope all can learn from my stumbling, rambling on this thread. Would I do it again?????????

Mel,

Time for some quality windshield time hopefully.

I made a pressure test cap for my 12V out of some PVC fittings to check for leaks.

Now, go enjoy that hard work. Accelerates freely while cruising?

Mel, I am happy you are making progress. I just did a 6 week 12,000 mile shakedown tour of Alaska and loved every minute of driving the old girl "Sylvia". I believe you will love what you have in the end. My 12v 6bt is only slightly modified from its meager 160 hp beginning and it is really nice, no complaints. We will have to meet up one day.

You've obviously never been on a hijacked plane, and have little idea how many TSA has thwarted.

Yes, security is troublesome. And usually gov't ops aren't the most "efficient".
But efficient is measured in the eyes of the beholder. You were in a hurry so the time spent seemed without value.
But if you'd ever been on a hijacked plane.... there'd be no amount of time you wouldn't spend to avoid that experience again.

(Sorry for the thread hijack, but it was already introduced.
The Israeli airline, El Al, kept my friend for four hours in an interview before allowing him onboard. He was the Hispanic mayor of a small town in Texas, (resembles Arabic to some people) visiting the Holy Land and returning home.
When he got home, he found that security had called three of his neighbors to inquire of him and to confirm his occupation, and even asked if they knew where he was "today". Only after one of them confirmed to be feeding the family pets while they were away in Israel was he allowed onboard. Now, THAT is security! ...and a bit slower than TSA.)

So... how long do you feel YOUR security wait is of value?)

Not to go political, but the folks in Israel do real security, as you have shown. TSA unfortunately is 'security theatre' all too often.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. 😀
