I love small town good Samaritan mechanics. I have met many (and appreciated every single one).

The transmission tech showed me the sad remains of a newer version transmission.

Mine was an older 1979 version, and essentially rock solid except for the one nylon gear. He also took the time to explain details about how to care for it. Wonderful and very helpful.

We converted an empty windowless van into a great camper. The only issue was no dash air. We had a swamp cooler that worked fine on the west coast but was a total fail in Alabama...that was the only reason we finally sold it.

A swamp cooler in Alabama... bwahahahahahahahhahhahahahahahhaah!!!!

I love explaining swamp coolers to my friends from the midwest when they visit. You can actually cool yourself by putting more *moisture* into the air?! It's like witchcraft to anyone from the lands of humidity.

Yup. It worked great in California...just needed water and 12 volt power. Had a bad habit of dumping dribbles of icy cold water on DW in hard left turns, however.

Had two 5,000 CFM ground mounted ones at our house up in the high desert. Cooled the whole house easily. Took just a trickle of water and power for the blowers. Maintenance nightmare cleaning them up for winter, though.

We didn’t plan to move to Alabama, but ended up having to on a work-related move. Drove the van across in the winter. Never thought about the potential problem with only a swamp cooler on it.

Thought we were gonna die from the heat and humidity when we went from northern Alabama up into Tennessee with the van in late summer one time. SWMBO decreed that was the last time she would ever ride in it...I took the hint.

Guy that bought it eventually ripped the dash and engine compartment apart and swapped in an A/C unit from a similar van. I presume it worked, but I never could find the parts to do it.
