I use NAPA GOLD, #1640 for the oil filter. Pay close attention to which end is "up". One of our members had a shop do an oil change and they installed the filter upside down. I believe he ended up having to replace or rebuild the motor due to lack of oil pressure. So just pay close attention. Since it is the old canister type filter, I fill the canister as full as I can before bolting it on.

I use a Wix 51282. Most parts houses don't stock it so it takes a day or two to get one. The number is easily converted to NAPA or whatever brand you like. Be sure you install it with the correct end up or you will have a real nightmare.

It was Mike Leary and Bess his 310 TD; mechanic installed oil filter upside down; told owner to take it down the road until the oil pressure built up; ended up blowing the turbo....

Tip as Mike stated: The filter fits into a bolt on filter housing; for faster oil pressure build up it is strongly suggested you pre-fill the housing with the filter in it and then screw it onto the filter housing. The difference is about 30 seconds before oil pressure is registered on the gauge if you don't pre-fill. Trust me, the first and only time I did that, I was reaching for the kill handle just as the gauge moved. Spooked me big time.

Cheers
Tony
