Why does front A/C have drain hose but back A/C does not?
1988 Classic 345
My front AC drains thru a hose behind the front tire. The rear AC dumps water on the roof which runs down the outside of the coach. The rear AC is not the original. Did they not hook it up properly? Is there a way to do so now?

If you can see the line, get a low pressure air hose and blow some air up thru it to see if it's blocked. If the line is missing or the line doesn't open into the a/c pan then the chances are the rear airconditioner is a replacement unit. It's not uncommom to damage the pan beyond repair and the A/S replacement pan is a little pricey so some people opt to replace it with a less expensive, off the shelf pan which does not have the drian line capability.
I ran into this with my front a/c unit and, like you, wish the water didn't drain onto the roof (and awning)...
Good luck, I hope it's a blocked drain line...Stu

Thanks Stuart for the tip. Do you know where the drain line for the rear AC should be?

We have an '83 310 and the rear a/c drain line on this model empties forward of the drivers side rear wheel. It's a black, 1/2ish" rubber line, probably looks like the line you found for your front a/c unit.
Hey! I just noticed you're from the Houston area. We left there a few years ago...kinda miss it a little bit..
again, good luck, Stu

The a/c is a Coleman. All a/c units, no matter the brand, sit on a drain pan which either drains the water into a drain line or simply allows the water to flow over the side onto the roof. An Airstream designed pan will have a fitting that connects to the drain hose however, after market pans may not have that connection. Unfortunately, the previous owners of my MH used an after market pan and thus the unwanted water.

The rear drain on a 345 is usually on the street side between the two rear tires (duals and tag axle). Mine drips dead in the center between the two. Look inside the wheel well on the top. You should see a black hose about 2-3" long.
I agree with the aove coments. Maybe a prior owner took a shortcut and replaced the unit without the proper drain pan for the drain hose.

he probably couldnt get a new pan for the coleman. so far all i can find in pans for airstreams is for the dutherm penquin. i have colemans on top at present and was going to upgrade to the coleman power saver unit. if i could get a pan for if .
seems i have reached a dead end on the upgrade. not going to use the over the side drain that will make a mess of the skin in time. the hose is probably still in the roof , without a drip pan it cant be used. lol

I too was interested in the Coleman powere saver units and discovered the same pan issue.
I want to go easy on my gen set even though it is a 7k watt unit. When I pulled off the shroud of my old Colemans, the unit said it was a 20 amp unit! The way I figure, two new Duo-Therm 15 amp units is a ful 10 amps less than both Colemans running (30 vs 40 amps)! I think the old Colemans were rated at 15,000 btu's of cooling.
Even with the Penguins up there, we still come out ahead.

with the coleman power saver units it only takes 20 amps to run front and rear. ten amps per unit. i am still waiting for a friend who claims he can modify my pans to work. if not i will keep on keeping on with what i have. the coleman units i have are 13500 units. plus the dometic penquins are bit more expensive . dometic makes a power efficent unit also. lol
