Tires for Motorhome

Been full time RVing in our 98 Land Yacht AS. Time to get tires before heading on the road again. New subject to us. Any general advice the forum can give? Brand? Thanks

A quick search will show there are as many opinions on tires as there are Airstreams. Chances are they will fail from age before you wear them out.

With safety in mind don't buy the cheapest no name brand but look for a reasonably priced name brand you recognize and keep them properly inflated.

Michelin makes RV tires for MH.
Never go wrong with them.
Just don't buy truck tires.
Be aware that your neighborhood tire store can't handle the 22 1/2" rims. I got mine at a RV megastore and just let them do it.
Prepare for sticker shock, my six tires mounted cost $3500!

Look at Toyo tires. They are well recommended by users replacing OEM Michelins, mainly due to cost.

There are Motorhome associations with tire discounting programs, that might be helpful in reducing the overall cost of replacement.

If tires need to be replaced due to age, don't forget the spare! It's probably at least as old, if not older, than the ones on the ground.

Which probably won't help right now unless you already belong to one. And you may be limited in the brands covered, as well. FMCA (which I'm a member of) requires that one be a member for a certain amount of time before the tire discount benefit kicks in, and their discount only applies to Michelins. So "Join today, buy discounted tires tomorrow" probably isn't going to happen.

I don't know about Airstream MH, but mine didn't have a spare. It would have taken a lot of space, was too heavy to lift, and I didn't carry tools to change one. I never had a flat, but that's why I had Coach Net.
