The
Performance Fuel Injection Systems is basically the same system I've installed on my 454 powered Argosy. The fuel pump is a frame rail mounted pump, most likely from a Ford. I used the same pump. Wayne started out with the same pump and decided to switch to an in tank mounted pump. In order to get around the fuel starvation issues that can be experienced with frame rail mounted pumps I installed a surge tank system. The surge tank ensures there is a constant flow of fuel available to the hi pressure pump inlet. I went this route because I didn't want to have to drop the fuel tank to replace a faulty pump. There are some in tank options that you can insert the pump from the bottom but the cost goes up as well.
The $1050 is the starting price. From there you really should install a Wide Band O2 sensor in the exhaust. I installed an electric fuel pressure gauge and I think Wayne has a fuel pressure gauge as well. One thing I have heard is none of the kit manufactures have the correct adapter plate for the 454 intake manifold. In the PFIS they mention that it is for a 454 but I would verify that really is the case. I know Wayne had to make his own adapter and I did as well. I built my kit from components and then hired someone to do the tuning (AKA the Tuner) for me. I'm quite satisfied with that approach. One thing it allowed me to do was to have the Tuner add an output from the PCM to control the radiator cooling fans.
I guess the main thing I would caution you on would to go into this with your eyes wide open expecting issues to crop up that will take time and money to correct.
