About 500 miles after we purchased our '84 310 MH, the speedometer ceased to function. Took it to the shop and they replaced the plastic drive on the end of the cable, it worked for awhile, then failed again. They said the part of the old piece was still inside and preventing the new drive from fully engaging. So they fixed that. Now the speedometer works, but the odometer does not (I'm not sure if it worked for a while after the speedo repair or never worked after the initial failure).
The shop is now saying that both the speedo and odometer are driven by the same mechanism and that if the speedo works but odometer does not, the unit will need to be replaced.
Two questions:
1. Does this all sound correct?
2. Will I be able to find a replacement Speedometer?
Took a while to find this as I hadn't bookmarked it. I talked to them a few years ago, never used them as I changed gauges but they sounded pretty on the ball. If you can pull the speedo they can probably fix it.
i found the speedo for the mh in California shop for $135 i replaced the defective one in my unit and about a year later that speedo was shot. do yourself a favor and put in a electronic speedo. i did and it works perfect, no mechanical cable to break or internal gears to jam. and it cost less than the teltech junk.
