Remodeled 310

Hello all,

it's been a while since my last post. My wife and I are finally on the road in our newly remodeled '83 310. For those that are interested photos of the motorhome as well as sights along the road can be found @ www.curtandmandy.com. Thanks to everyone for all the info during our search for, and the re-modelling of our Airstream

cheers!

Your remodeled 310 is beautiful! The skin looks to be in great condition. Did you have it polished, painted or was is just in great shape when you purchased it? It's difficult to tell from the pictures.

I have a '95 Classic 360 with a some scratches, dings and oxidation. I've been considering painting it as I've heard it's difficult to do anything with the Alumax finish on the mid-90's Airstreams.

Any suggestions out there??

'95 Classic

Mixstream:

Congratulations on owning one of the last of the "Classics".

Welcome to the Forum! There is a wealth of information here, and it is not too difficult to dig out.

Can you post some pics of your baby?

What did you do to install the drop down tv. We have put in a entertainment center as you have but love the drop down.

Skin was in pretty good shape, I've done nothing to it, but wash it and seal a couple of leaks with Vulkem. The clear coat is starting to peel a little on top so I'll eventually have to do something with it as well.

We had to have some of the comforts of home with us, it seemed like the best solution since we're not tall people LOL.

Thanks!

Dropdown cabinet and the entertainment center are made out of 1" oak, stained to match the window valances, beveled the edges to match as well. The cabinet is mounted using 1 1/2" aluminum angle attached to the inside straight sides of the cabinet and screwed into the aluminum stringers that run the length of the coach in the roof with 1" self tapping sheet metal screws. The other two sides are un-attached to the coach, just to the attached sides with more aluminum angle. Door is 3/4" oak plywood hinged with 3 european style flush mount hinges. The LCD is attached to the door with flat mirror mounts and a 6" square piece of plywood. standard chrome slide bolt holds it closed while in motion. I ran all the wiring under the plastic moulding that covers the aluminum strip between the cab and living area. I'll try and post some detail photos in the next couple of days so you can see what I'm talking about.

Drop down TV

The entire unit looks great!

Two questions -

What size flat screen did you use?

In hindsight, would you have done anything different as far as the TV and flatscreen selection and installation go?

Back on the road

After working on several projects in Los Angeles, we're back on the road. Currently in NM, on our way to Ft Meyers, FL to catch a couple of Red Sox spring training games. After that, family in TN and on to RI for a wedding, I'll update my site as I can. Maybe I'll see some of you along the way!

Sounds like a great trip. Just don't watch the Sox when they play the Yanks. Things just don't seem to go well for you guys.

I've seen 310's in three rear bedroom layouts.

Twins
Walk around full/queen?
King (i.e. the entire back is a huge bed. The best choice for really tall folks)

I assume from the pictures that yours has the jumbo/king rear bed? What does that look like when it's not a bed?

Three days without internet acess, drove me nuts! We're in Kerrville, TX at the Buckhorn Lake RV Resort, nice park, they even have free WiFi access. Heading for Houston today, the Big Easy tomorrow. Hoping to drink green beer at Pat O'Briens on St. Patty's Day, and have some Cafe Du Mond Coffee the next morning.

You said "Yanks", in my thread! Why didn't you throw in Buckner, Bucky Dent and The Bambino while you were at it? I'll forgive you this time. but . . .

We originally had the twins, but I took them out and built a removable support frame. Had a custom mattress made, it folds, but basically it's a bed all the time. Saved the twins in case I ever sell this thing.

Our trip has come to an end. It's been fabuluos, but time to settle. We're buying a house in Providence, RI., a great city where we also happen to have famiily. I've just completed a major update to our site so stop by and have a look. There are photos there from most places along our 13,000 mile journey, as well as pics from the Region 1 rally in Woodstock, CT, and the AS Forums rally in Lake Allatoona, GA

looks like the time has come. Unfortunately I can't keep the motorhome and still buy/work on the non-motor home, so we're putting it up for sale. I placed an ad here in the classifieds and at airstream.com. Once I'm done with the house though, I'll be looking for a 18-22 foot vintage trailer to restore, I'm hooked!

Thanks, to everyone, for the advice and assistance you provided throughout our oddysey, it was invaluable. It was great meeting some of you at the rallies. See you when I get that vintage trailer.
