Murphy Bed
It is always good to check out what the competition is doing. Some good ideas. I like those curved cabinet doors, and the Murphy bed near the end of the video.

This one is cool. The "Decoliner". We saw it last January in Quartzsite, AZ.

This one reportedly did not leak! Thats what good roof drainage and UV protection does for you.
Notice the rear observation deck and the front entrance. Are those things going to come back?

Rear Observation Deck
Wonder why this idea never stuck with the motorhome builders?
Seems like it would create some new marketing opportunities.

They have those now. Toy haulers and other SOB have the back that folds down and legs that pop out for a back porch. It is a big selling point for family SOBs

Odd Motorhomes .....

The sliding patio doors offered a number of problems that included: - Rattled incessently while underway.
- The glass utilized cracked and shattered easily. He indicated that he was on his fifth set of patio doors.
- The patio doors were nearly impossible to keep effectively sealed against water and air intrusion.
I haven't encountered one since that trip. The floorplan was open and I can just imagine the panoramic views one would have from those patio doors in some of the campground that I have visited over the years. I suspect with moder glazing and sealing techniques that problems encountered by the owner of that Open Road Chassis Mount could be remedied.

This is the Open Road Chassis Mount Motorhome that I remember from 1978 (it was a 1969 model):
I believe that the photo above is of a 1966 or 1967, but the actual camper body didn't change much between 1966 and 1969. I always liked the concept of a Chassis-Mount motorhome where you had the cab and chassis present thus eliminating the necessity of mechanics entering the living quarters to service the motor/transmission. I had a class C with the van cab and chassis, but it had the huge inconvenience of the difficult to service motor/transmission . . . sold that after only two seasons and went back to travel trailers.

Very cool!
Found this gem over in the Vintage section of the iRV2 Forum...
Its a Streamline Travel Car...
Front is just ok to my eye, but the rear is super COOL!
I just see it cruising down teh street with Grampa on his rocking chair smoking a pipe... or with his shotgun on his lap!

Does the huge banana-shaped object on the streetside exterior and the cute li'l driver come with it?

Looks like a 1950~52 Chevrolet "tin woody" station wagon. So called because the wood grain was painted on. Compare to this picture:
Don't know for sure about the trailer. Could be a 1950 Spartan "Royal Mansion". Has the right shape for it, at least.

Odd Motorhomes ..... Reply to Thread
The "Silver Streaks" on the hood make me think that the tow vehicle is likely a 1949-1953 Pontiac Chieftan Station Wagon.
Kevin
P.S.: If my memory is correct the Pontiac would have been the sister to the Chevrolet, but would have likely had Pontiac's straight 8 for power.

Not THAT awesome. Must be hell on the van's rear differentials to be submerged that deep for launching the boat. Not like a trailer that has solid axles.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I only give it a 7.7, for being clever but impractical.
