Need a campground north of La, Calif.
I have been pouring over the campground books, AAA, Escapees, Woodalls, and thought someone here may have to solution to our search.
We will be going out to LA, daughter's wedding in Sept. and need a place close to 1000 Oaks area, (Ventura, Santa Barbara). I still have to fit her wedding dress before we drive to Los Vegas for the actual cermony.so we have to be kind of accessible.
I am a little concerned as I have been reading this summer about the "AGE" problem and we are taking the trailer, 1972 Overlander and Surburban because of the time constraints.
I would appreciate any input or reviews as far as camp grounds.
thanks

mareinmn, here is a link to some more campgrounds/rv parks in the Ventura area.
http://www.ventura.org/gsa/parks/parkinfo.htm
Ventura RV Park has full hookups and is quite nice but it is located across the freeway from the beach and gets some freeway noise.
I believe Hobson and Faria both have a few sites with hookups. Rincon Parkway has no hookups but you get a million dollar view of the Pacific ocean.
I live in Thousand Oaks so if you need additional information let me know.

mareinmn, I just thought of another rv park close to Thousand Oaks. Malibu Beach RV Park. It is about the same distance away as Ventura and has a great view of the Pacific.

Malibu Beach RV is a beautiful spot overlooking the ocean.Perhaps a little more pricey than Ventura but well worth the views.
One caution is that you must get NOT use Kanan Rd. -the closest way over the mountains from Thousand Oaks. There is a hefty fine for trailers as the grade is 8%.There is a way to get there by another canyon called Encinal Cyn Rd.You can use Kanan to Mullholand and then you must detour. It's a pretty drive and we sometimes take the Safari over and park on Encinal above the ocean and invite friends for dinner on the cell phone!
I'll try to come up with a picture of our last 'dinner drive".

Creampuff, you are absolutely correct about NOT using Kanan Road. I started home on Kanan one time and saw the sign about a mile north of PCH so I had to turn around. That was sure fun!! I usually use Las Virgines/Malibu Canyon.

Good Morning All,
Sorry I was lax in replying, that darn work day still is getting in the way. Well it won't be long now.
I am busy printing out all the Malibu Beach information as I write.
It sounds great.
This trip we are really still on vacation not full-timing yet but I let the Airstream Captain/CEO/Treasurer make the reservation choices, (expensive campground vs re-upholster in leather for the motorhome). That might be a no brainer as we are staying a kind of "up-scale" Rv resort in Vegas. He gives in once in a while.
I am really praying for one of the Ventura County beach sites to be available.
One of my co-workers who makes the Ca Pilgrimage every fall just reminded me not to expect that too much as "Everyone in Ca has a Rv and they can use them 12 months out of the year!"
We should be on the road right after labor day.

Just called Malibu RV and got their rates-they range from $36.96 to $59.36/night.my choice would be the ocean view site with elec/water h/u for $48.16 but they have the same site without the water view for $36.96.They have a dump stn.
They have a website too, she said (thought) with pics.
www.MalibuRV.com
Be happy to join you for drinks too.Send PM.
