Leaf Springs

saw an interesting tip on maintenance of leaf springs. They said to remove rust from the exterior with a wire brush, then paint the springs with rust prventive. Then when dry you apply a layer of grease to the spring frcing it in with your hands, and wrap the whole thing in duct tape for awhile. After driving it for a few weeks you remove the tape.
Suppose to improve the spring performance. Whaddayathink?

If nothing else they look better cleaned and painted. But with what a spring goes through it seems like a waste of time to grease them; failure is usually from breaking or losing their arch. With the pressure on them I don't think the grease would really penetrate too far between the leafs. If you want to lube them use a spray lube that will penetrate and not attract crud as much.

Springs

What great timing! I'm going to a spring shop today to get prices on new springs. Should I ask about chrome?

thats what I forget for watching the speed channel. I like the spray idea it sure would be faster and cleaner.

What about wheel bearings, any reason to grease them in between brake jobs?

Leaf Springs

EMCO in Oklahoma is coming out with aluminum coated leaf springs. Now that would be really cool!
