How to Obtain Title Fast

Hello everyone. I live in Florida and I am selling my Airstream to a party from Kansas. We agreed that the buyer would pay off my loan as the purchase of the camper. My loan is with Bank of America, when I called them today, they said for the buyer and I to go to a local BoA branch to pay off the loan. However, it turns out that I will not be able to obtain a paper copy of my title for approximately two weeks. This has my buyer wanting to not proceed with the deal. He does not want to depart without a title in hand (he is paying out of pocket and not getting a loan). And naturally he is not going to sit here for two weeks waiting to get his title. If anyone has had a similar experience and can give me advice how I can remedy this situation it will be most appreciated.

Go directly to your branch manager. If he wants to take the time he can find where it is physically being held. You might be able to go to that location to make the transaction. A good relationship with your manager can open many doors.

If the buyer has a signed copy of the Bill of Sale and a copy of the paid off loan the title is not that big of a deal. You will have to sign the title and just agree with he or she to mail it to them once you get it. With the Bill of sale they could apply for a title if they had to. No big deal.

Financial institutions routinely hold titles for 2 weeks after receiving the final check - in case the check bounces. With an in-bank transfer of certified funds they COULD certainly have the title ready at the buyer's location, but it os not business as usual.... and they won't be motivated to move their "assets" to be helpful. Might do it for a.couple hundred in service fees though.

As the earlier post pointed out, a bill of sale , etc. Should make getting a new title easy.

They will mail it to him. It's common practice. He need not worry. Have him call his bank and they will tell him the same thing. They just don't keep it there.

We purchased our AS from an attorney in Jackson Hole, who arranged to conduct the sale at a title company, much like a real estate transaction. We came away with a clean Bill of Sale in our name and drove the AS back to where we were living at the time to in California. We felt very secure in the transaction.

It then took us a couple of frustrating months to get the AS registered and titled in California. The former owner had a loan through BoA, who were slow releasing the title, and then when it did come BoA neglected to remove the note about the former owner’s loan from the title. CA DMV refused to accept the title for transfer until BoA finally cleared this up, which took over a month.

The summary is: 1) using a title company to handle the closing gives both parties a great deal of security in the transaction, although there is a cost associated with using a title company, and 2) obtaining the title following the transaction can take some time and may require some patience, especially if a loan was involved.

I couldn't find my truck title. I went to the tag office and for $85 they PRINTED a new title right there at the tag office.

No state office will print a clear title that has a lien. You can't get a clear title until BoA signs off. It a dilemma, the buyer has to have some faith. BoA must provide some record of the payoff until the title arrives.

Florida issues electronic titles so if you want the paper title you have to go to the state and pay a few bucks to get the paper version. I would call the state title office and see how they suggest handling the transaction so the buyer is comfortable in making the purchase.
