Generator Good News I Hope

Generator GOOD NEWS I HOPE,
I found a 4000 w Onan. A teacher I work with has one. My big question is, can I run two ac's at the same time with that size generator? He says sure and the numbers or sizes of the the two roof units don't exceed the output of the generator. Also the other question is if 4000 w will work why is the old generator a 6500 onan. I there something else going on electricly I have missed? Will 4000 w work please advise

no it will not work. the two air cond you have load up your 6.5 when the compressor kicks in. not a good move will run one 13.5 ac unit. lol al

According to Onan, the 4000 "can operate one air conditioner with power to spare" and the 6500 "operate two air conditioners with power to spare"

Actually it depends on the air conditioners. If you have those new high-efficiency Colemans that take 10A to run and 15A to start, then the 4000 could probably start two of them at the same time with virtually no power to spare.

The 4000 gives 33A, enough for a 20+A surge of one traditional RV AC through its breaker with maybe 10+A to spare for other things.

The 6500 gives 54A, enough for two 20+A surges of two traditional RV AC through each of their breakers at the same time, with maybe 10+A spare for other things.

In both cases, 4000 w/1AC and 6500 w/2AC, the "power to spare" is barely enough for a 1000W cooking power microwave (about 12.5A when the magnetron is on).

Even my 7,000w Kohler struggles to run both. When running both, you can't run anything else. You might be able to run both if you get a box that prevents both compressors from kicking on at the same time. It controls them both and switches back and forth.

Eventually, I'd like to put that in or have Walt modify mine so I can plug the 2nd unit into the campgrounds 20amp service and run both at a campsite.
