Fueling Problem

I have a 1995 Classic 36 diesel pusher which I bot in '09 with 27,000 miles on it. We've taken it on several long trips and it now has 45,000 mile. We love the motorhome and plan to keep it until we can't travel anymore. My problem is that when it is time to refuel, after 25 or so gallons, the fuel starts backing up out of the filler nozzle and spills all over the place. Then it takes about 20 minutes to trickle in the rest of the fuel. I believe the problem is because the fuel filler pipe enters the fuel tank midway on the side and not into the top of the tank.
Has anyone encountered this problem and if so, is there a solution. I've gotten to the point where rather than stand for 20-25 minutes refueling I just put enough in to where it starts to blow back and leave with only half a tank of fuel. Remember, this is diesel and it is bad about frothing up unlike gasoline.

I'm not an expert on Motor Homes, but I wonder if it would be a clogged tank vent. Sal

The vent is supposed to keep that from happening.
Since it is happening, the vent must be clogged or crimped.

You must not have many problems with that unit Dave. You owned since 09 and only posting a problem now.

We like pictures and details. How about some pics and specs on you Classic????

I am not familiar with your CLASSIC but if you have fills on both sides, does it happen on both sides?
If it has fills on both sides, you could loosen the cap on the opposite side when filling to fix the problem short term. (Just don't try to over-fill this way )

On the CLIPPER, you can see the street side fill plumbing inside the #1 cargo bay. If yours is in a cargo bay, the vent may have been damaged at some point? The vent breather should be plumbed into the upper part of the fill tube. If you can see where the vent is in the tube, it may be located down below the length of the fill nozzle??? If so, some type of portable nozzle extension might work.
