Question Ever hear of a '79 Excella MH 24 footer?

I'm about to go see one this weekend, and the owner insists it's 24' with the Excella name on the outside of the motorhome. He said that it's got 140,000 miles yet the engine is very strong, and they want $14,000.00 for it.

Fred's site doesn't list a '79 24 footer ever being made, so it's probably a 28 footer unless someone out there has other info.

Just because it's not on my site doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

Airstream was clearly experimenting with the Argosy units and getting a feel for the MH thing in 1979. Anything is possible. There are some painted Argosy's out there that look like Airstreams. Take a magnet with with and see if the end caps are galvanized steel. It could be a painted Argosy. It could be a 24' Airstream Excella MH!

Just make sure it's not a front wheel drive unit. There was a custon trailer/MH conversion running around out there. I'd stay clear of that unit.

Snap some digital photos for us and my site.

79-24'

The 1979 24' has a similar layout to the 1984 27'

Hi guys,

I guess there is a 79' Excella 24' that exists afterall!...I'm such a newbie. The seller of hers was a bit touchy about the price and my lack of knowledge. She says it's a bargain for this "rare" length, and now that I'm questioning things about maintenance and such, she's just going to put a sign on the window and take her time selling it. She said she only talks to experts and not newcomers who get their info from some forum. Whoa!

Guess I'll buy that '89 345 LE front end diesel puller in Texas!!!

Thanks for all your great help, guys. I feel comfortable saying stuff here even if I'm wrong about it (OK Fred?) LOL

See ya'll later.

Carlos

P.S. I wish I knew how to attach an email folder to include here. You could read her very words.

Mercedes 20' MH

I was just offered an old, beatup 1970 Mercedes 20' ex-motorhome for FREE! They should pay me to take it away. Nothin works, and it's trashed, trust me. Owner has it in an RV storage facilty, paying $50. a month! It would be very expensive to fix up.

Oh. I was informed by the seller of the 1992 250 that he has dropped his price to under $30,000 since no one bit at $35,000. $14,000 is too high unless in terrific shape.

Re: "She said she only talks to experts and not newcomers who get their info from some forum. Whoa! "

Oh. What a grouch. She's not worth the trouble. She's no expert anyways! An expert would be able to justify the price by selling you on the condition of the unit and comparable sales. She's looking for a fool to part with their money! Besides, the folks on this Forum are the best educated around!

I question that statement. I think we are all a bunch of paranoid schizoids. Someone screams 'Master Cylinder' and everyone else has nightmares.
You guys have cost me a lot of money...

Carlos,
I think I know who you're talking about. She knows her stuff and she's in an area where the price will be paid. She's been around quite a while...and will help you with your questions to boot. She's also a softy on negotiating, just an added bit of insight. And, there is indeed a 1979 as you see from the list, so cutting and pasting would be nil if you did it anyway. Life goes on...good luck on the one you buy if it's not the 24'.

the first Airstream motorhome I looked at for sale in Georgia was a 24 foot 1979. It was priced at 19,000 and sold.
It was in nice overall shape, but the interior was all original, and needed updating badly.
The owner said it was a rare size, and he was not taking less than around 19.
I would say he probably got it.
I spent months looking for something under 30 feet....

Cool 79 Excella

I also have one of these rare 24ft excella's they are perfect for
two people or a couple with two kids. I have been through it from bumper to bumper everything works and I Love it. It's easy to
manuver through traffic, it's easy to see out of and I have been
pulled over to the side of the road several times by courious
motorists, guess they thought it was older than it was one guy even took photos. I will probably be selling this one next spring or summer depends on when I finish with my 310 referb project.
My Excella is all origional on the inside as well but I kind of like the retro look however it would be nicer if it was more current looking. It's not worn out but is kind of showing its age and it
also will need to be polished up on the outside and maybe
reclearcoated but it could look at least as good as the one posted above same color scheme with nice A&E awning. It has 98k miles and runs great. I was told that Garth Brooks manager owned it before he made the bigtime don't know that for sure but I did remove the sparetire and found a dealer sticker from okla.
which is where Garth hails from so who knows.
