That sounds like a one fine transplant!

I wish I lived closer, would love to see it up close. I’ve done several engine swaps in my garage but your diesel donor in an Airstream motorhome is very cool.

Please post photos and status updates during the process. Good luck!

Airmack,

That is a robust old school Cummins. I owned one. Just checking, are you aware of the killer dowel pin KDP status on your donor engine?

killer pin

Yes I am, I've done a gas to 5.9 diesel before, thanks for the concern. Malcolm

Hey,
That is very cool.
Could you document your swap. A 5.9 will fit right in there with a little fabricating. But the weird stuff like wiring it, the brake drum on the trans , those are the adventure part of the swap I don't like.
I had a 91 pickup w a 5.9 and a 5 speed manual. Loaded all the time, it pulled 18.7 mpg went to Canada once. 2 tanks up there, 23.5 mpg. Go figure. Better fuel I guess. My dodge weighed in at just over 8000 PDs. You should get at least 12-14 mpg I would think. Those engines are bull it proof. Gas mileage went up even more when they went to the 32 valve system. But it got more complicated from a wiring standpoint. I'd be very interested in your setup. I can alway pull my 454 and stick it in something else. Maybe a 55 Chevy. DJ
