Bike Racks on a Toad?

Thinking of carrying two bikes on a '98 Nissan 200SX/SE 2-door. The Nissan is to be our toad behind a 1999 30' Land Yacht. Questions: 1. Any problems having the bikes on the Nissan toad? 2. Which would be better, roof rack or trunk rack? We need to make sure on all this before investing in racks, bike upgrades, etc.

Thanks.

We have a 2005 LYG 30 SL and tow a 2 dr Wrangler. We never hesitate to put a couple bikes on the spare tire mounted bike rack and have towed like this for thousands of miles. So go for it! The only other choice is to put the bike inside the MH and that is difficult to climb over when on the road. Safe travels.

I have towed my Honda Fit with a hatchback-mounted bike rack installed. In my case, that actually was better than a roof rack, because the bike is longer than the car is wide, and it made the car easier to see in my outside mirrors. Without the bike on the rack, all I can see of the toad is the tips of its mirrors. With a bike on the rack, I could see the bike tires as well.

However, in terms of aerodynamics, the roof rack would be a better place to carry the bikes, assuming the toad has enough roof for it and you are physically capable of getting the bikes up and down from the toad's roof.

In other words, either one is fine, just choose which rack you prefer, as long as the option you choose has the capacity you want.

Appreciate your comments, specially those of Protagonist - - at 82 lifting onto a roof rack would be a challenge. Now I need to find a trunk-mounted rack. Also need to get the toad rigged for toading!

When we had a 38' MH we towed a Jeep and mounted a bike rack on the outside spare tire of the Jeep. No issues except the bikes were always dirty. I used to take the seats off, throw them in the back of the Jeep and put DucTape over the seat post hole. Worked fine for us and no roof rack struggles.

We have 2 Normal bikes from LLBean, quick release wheels & seats. Bought special wrench from llbean to remove pedals. Break Down both bikes & stash em in the trunk of our 2009 cobalt. Safe, secure, clean, use old t shirts to put the wheels in, and a blanket between frames for protection. Don't even tip rear seats to put em in!
