Argosy shuttle bus

Has anybody besides me ever seen an Argosy or Airstream shuttle bus? I saw two last week in Pulaski, TN. They were obviously made as shuttle buses from the factory, since they have the cut-in steps, bus-style pneumatic door, and an underfloor air conditioning system. Their gas tanks are on the road side. They also have different front caps, too, (fiberglass, I think) with a raised flat area for the route sign.

The ones I saw were, I believe, '76 and '78 models, and both were 24'. Anyone know how many of these were made?

The only other non-motorhomes I know of that use this same shell are the Airstream funeral coaches, of which there's one here in Nashville - a very funky ride, indeed!

Fred (the VAC historian) has some photos of a 1976 Argosy shuttle and the NASA Airstream shuttle bus on his WEBSITE.
There's also a pic of a 1978 Airstream bus HERE
I'm sure there are others.

Bob,
I have seen a couple that were no longer in service in a salvage yard in NM.
I have also seen the funeral hearse/MH there used to be one in Greensboro, NC back in the mid 80's.

shuttle bus,

Hello,
Fred H. Has some pix of mine on his site.
Also in my photos
it started life as a shuttle for Detroit Metro Airport.
It is a 26' with a 350 chevy motor /400 trans
runs great, gets about 9 mpg average.
the P.O.'s did the conversions I just made everything "right," (well still doing it)
I still have to do the paint. along with other things
It does have a fiberglass FRONT "cap".
Also it has what I believe is a prototype front end, it is a mix of old and new,and unique.

We used to see the Argosy buses at the Los Angeles Airport in the 70's shuttling those travelers around.

He's not the first politician to use an Argosy. The last one LOST his bid for office. Remember Robert Reich ?

I'll have to update my site to include the political history of Airstream/Argosy MH's! (and the track record)

I just saw one last month at Monument Valley, UT - it was being used as a tour bus.

Interested in selling?

Skid4u,

I have someone that is looking for the Airstream bus like the one you have. Are you interested in selling?

I do want to sell it. I am moving to Costa Rica and would preffer a trailer there. If the guy has a trailer to trade, even better.
I am in the process of stripping and polishing the outside, started today actually so it would not be ready for a few weeks.
Tell him to email me at: xeniamd at sympatico.ca [moderator edit to protect from spam harvester bots. Close spaces, replace at with @ ]
Thanks. Don

An Argosy shuttle on Fred's site - Fred's Airstream Archives @ ViewRVs.com - 1976 Airstream Argosy 20' Shuttle Bus (D)

I can't find the best I've seen (it was on these pages somewhere). But somebody pimped out the inside as a crash pad in purple velour IIRC. Bleach will clean up anything...

I have traded the Air Bus for a trailer. Can-am RV in London now has it as a promotion vehicle. Back to it's original purpose.

Good luck Snowy23. They are very unique machine. Sleeping accomodations for us were inflatable mattresses, took about 15 minutes to set up 2 beds ready to go. Electrical problems can be discouraging but mostly its bad contacts/grounds from corrosion over age. Clean all the grounds on the frame with a file and grinder, it will improve starting also. Any thing I can help with, just write.
