Airstream Atlas 2020 defects and failure of Airstream to address

I did not hurry to leave with my new Atlas off the lot. In fact it has been back to the dealership for service many times this past year where issues such as the extender jacks were “fixed.”

But my Atlas problems persist.

Yes, I see on the forum replies like “too bad, you overpaid $240,000 for a poorly working RV” which isn’t helpful.

Airstream leadership blames the pandemic.

Now I see web stories such as https://mymodernmet.com/airstream-atlas-2021/ stating the perfection of the marriage of Mercedes and Airstream producing the perfect child, the Atlas.

If only it came with a fridge that worked, other components that didn’t fail and best of all, if only these failures could be repaired quickly as they are with other vehicle manufacturers such as Toyota and my Lexus.

If only………Sad!

I had an Atlas. It was a fantastic rig. I got rid of it because I like to fix things and take them apart. So I bought a 2005 Land Yacht 396. The ‘what can I mess with’ problem was solved and we sold the Atlas. It was a great rig, well designed and no issues. I think the USBs could have been better but that is not a giant issue.

I read the FB group and other comments. There are some rigs with issues but by no means are they the majority IMO. I have seen and talked to many others with Atlas. Mostly good rigs. Enjoy it.

Another issue I saw with the Atlas is the lack of informative forum info. Lots of talk about problems but fewer talk about ‘how I fixed’. Take steps for instance. Steps on almost all trailers have issues. Lots of forum articles with fixes and work around a. Even places that sell step supports to correct the flaw in bouncy steps. But for Atlas there are more posts about ‘my steps don’t work and I need satisfaction!’ I get it. It is an expensive rig. But then again, I like to take things apart and fix them so I might be the outlier. Highly likely.

I am absolutely not trying to pick on any one person or the steps issue but I did find a lack of ‘try this’ compared to other rig models.

I have a 2020 Atlas I bought new in May of 2020. I haven't had any problems other than minor things I took care of easily. I would suggest, if you use Facebook, looking up the private Atlas group. It's got about 450 members and is a great source of info. I don't do Facebook normally, but I got a login just so I could join the group.

We are going into camping season #2 with our Atlas. Most of the issues we have had are minor and have been fixed - nothing more significant than we had with our Flying Cloud 25 and Classic 33 trailers. We love it!

LilPeanut, Well said! I peruse this forum for ideas and I too have noticed a lot of people just complaining. Some is legit I suppose when you spend a lot of money on a rig. But can we just make these forums helpful by offering up ideas and suggestions rather than simply posting complains. These are not helpful.
I own a 2019 Atlas and am happy with it. Every time I email Airstream, they email me back with helpful information and suggestions. I'd rather not have any problems at all, but I'm not sure you can buy anything that has zero issues!
