I have a 1996 airstream landyacht wide body diesel pusher. I need info on how to remove the generator so I can replace the starter. Looks like it has to be lowered but would like info from someone who has done this.
This generTor is an onan 6.5 propane powered unit. Starter runs but does not engage the flywheel on the generator sounds like it’s grinding up against it.
I was watching a YouTube video and then I ran across this post.
The video is about a Onan 6.5 repair by "Class A Living", he does change the starter.
Looks like you have to remove some bolts on the tray, the power and a couple tie-downs and maybe the fuel line to get enough slack to slide the unit forward on the tray to get to the starter. If you Google "onan 6.5 generator starter replacement" there are several videos available, hopefully one of them will help you.
