1988 Airstream 290 question
Hello all! I going to sell my 1988 290 motorhome, problem is I have no clue what to ask for it. It is in great shape as can see by the pictures. The coach was given to us by my in laws (original owners) and has NEVER been stored outside. It has the Chevy 454, it runs and drives perfect. Brand new fridge, microwave and Mich tires all around. 2 problems - driving/dash air doesn't work (has leak and refrigerant leaks out) also the front airbags are gone and need to be replaced, (I have new bags, just haven't replaced them yet. It has 40K miles. What do you think would be a fair price to ask?? My thought was 25K, is that unreasonable???
BTW - the Airstream dealer in Baton Rouge offered 25K 2 years ago, just didn't want to part with it at that time.
Thanks,
Wendell

Some interior pic would help but from looks of the exterior it's in exceptional shape. Have you taken it camping recently to test interior systems? If they are in good shape, $25,000 is reasonable. Might ask a bit more and try to settle around 25. Looks in very fine shape. Any idea how old the tires are? Not how they look but the date stamped on the tires?

Not sure Mike, but the tires were replaced in 2015. The batteries were also replaced about a year ago. I don't have any inside pics, but it's as good as the outside, all solid oak cabinets and the leather swivel chairs up front (think the brand is Flexsteel). It has the queen bed and not the twins. I'll get some inside pics and post in the classifieds. One thing that I didn't mention is the self leveling system is not working because of a leak in the system, I just pulled the fuse for now. Might be an easy fix for someone who wants to do it. Onan generator works great as do the roof A/C's.

Looks nice from the outside!
Inside photos are a must, Service info is a definite plus for buyers
Wish I had the ambition and time on my hands and I would make an offer.
But I dont think I could fit the extra 2 feet in my parking spot (I have a 270)

So it's safe to assume that the tires are 2-3 years old. That's a big deal on any rig because they usually age out before they wear out and it's $2000 or so to replace right off the bat. So that's a big plus. Airstream used Flexsteel seats back in those days so if they are in good shape another plus. Flexsteel is near the top for seating. If the leveling system is just a leak then that's not too big of a deal. If the controller works and the rest of the system. Sounds like a very solid motorhome. The market is strong right now overall for these Airstream Classic Motorhomes. If it were mine.......I wouldn't sell it ...... but since you are I would list it somewhere between 25-30000. You can always come down if need be..being stored inside its whole life is another big deal, the clear coat looks amazing. Any and all records and documentation will help not only in selling but also for the future owner. Good luck, I doubt you have any problem at all selling. Beautiful rig!
Mike
(Don't let anyone low ball you on that rig)

Wendell, it depends mainly on the interior. Last year, I paid $47K for my 1987 290 that had been remodeled (wood floors, mahogany stain, new countertops, custom slide-out bed, nice stereo system + more) plus a high-gloss polish job. It was in very good condition, including the awning. 6 new tires were an unfortunate additional $1.2K though. I had a professional appraisal from James Polk and what I paid is below market value according to him. Yours is a beautiful rig, hope to see it on the road someday!

I've been watching the market for a couple months, 25k sounds very fair for a mint, always stored inside rig that needs no work, if you're not in a hurry I would list it for 35.
This is a wierd low volume market, it looks like prices get driven down because demand is so low, so patience might pay off
Sellers market for motorhomes is spring

Hey Wendell, I’m in the market for a 290 or 310 for a crosscountry tour. Yours looks in great shape mechanically! I’d love to talk. Do you have an email?

It would be interesting to see the interior layout as the door is in a very unusual place. Not much space between cockpit and door.
$25k would be an exceptional price to get this rig for; docking lamps, rear camera, very clean alloys, double step, double low profile A/C's, awnings both sides.
Cheers
Tony
