Redoing my 25 year old mistakes - 1963 GT

Hi guys,

I am undoing and redoing stuff in our 63 Golbetrotter. This is the second time we have owned this particular trailer. I am cursing me, the previous owner for some of the hair brained, bailing wire repairs I made 25 years ago. I am not as smart as I thought.

I am mounting a new lp regulator (aluminum base) on the aluminum bracket that fits on the lp tank anchor, probably not the right terminology there, but you guys know what I am talking about, I hope. I have to drill new holes in the bracket to match the holes in the regulator, which will need to be tapped for the screws. Now, the question, I am uncertain as to type of metal screws to use. What is the best type of metal screws to use in aluminum? I don't want to look at ugly rusty screws in a couple of years. Some of those ugly rusty screws I put in. So fellows, please show me the light? I don't want to be dumb more than twice.

Chick

I don't know what type of fastener to use where but I have seen threads here about using Stainless Steel screws because they don't rust.

Wait a bit and someone who actually knows something will respond.

I would use stainless. Everything else out there appears to be crap.

Tapping the Holes in the New Regulator

You can use self-tapping stainless steel screws, install them with a screwdriver, and be done with it. It's a simple repair .
