Fixin' to restore/renovate in Texas - 1963

Well Howdy,
We're fixin' to restore our 1963 Globetrotter and have a whole bunch of questions like;

1. Anyone have an opinion on the Apollo Halftime Oven and cook-top?

2. Forbo "Click" flooring?

3. How about the Norcold DE 0778b? Can it run for 12 hours on 12v while boon docked?

4. What Hot-water-on-demand heater would you recommend?

5. Do I need to use Zolotine paint or would any quality latex paint work for the interior?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Also, did the 63GT have a converter? If not, how did it charge the 12v battery? If so, where is that rascal located?

I just finished renovating a 64 Bambi II in Houston.
1. Anyone have an opinion on the Apollo Halftime Oven and cook-top? No opinion

2. Forbo "Click" flooring? I put in Engineered Oak click lock flooring and have been very pleased with the results.

3. How about the Norcold DE 0778b? Can it run for 12 hours on 12v while boon docked? No opinion - I went with 110v.

4. What Hot-water-on-demand heater would you recommend? I went with conventional 6 gallon Atwood DSI.

5. Do I need to use Zolotine paint or would any quality latex paint work for the interior? Curious to hear answers to this because I am contemplating repainting my interior.

Also, did the 63GT have a converter? I am sure it did but you will want to repalce it with a modern smart cahrger anyway.
where is that rascal located? Probably in your One Stop Service Center. Follow battery cables to find it.

To my knowledge no converters were used on A/S until 64. My 63 GT never came w/ one, that's why the lights have a 110 bulb & s 12v bulb. I installed a battery tender to keep batt charged before camping.

Well, it's been months and lots of $$$ but we're down to the final stage of renovating our 63 Globetrotter and it has been a bitter/sweet experience.

First off, we had to completely gut the GT due to our Texas summers is like having your AS sit in a kiln for years. Everything was kinda' intact but completely dried out. I did save everything we pulled out, or what we could salvage, in case we want to put her back into original once we're done traveling. Here's what we did according to my first post:

1. We gutted the 63 GT which allowed us to repair/replace the sub-flooring which included all of the bathroom, areas around the entrance, under the fresh water holding tank, galley, etc.

2. Replace flooring with Brazilian Cherry Wood (from Home Depot) click (fit together).

3. In the bathroom we completely removed the tub, shower, vanity, etc. Where the tub was we plumbed in our new composting toilet (Nature's Head) which allowed us to get away from having to use a black-water holding tank and opened up the bathroom all together. We built a vanity under the back window then rises up for our sink. Under the sink we installed a grey-water holding tank, a hot water on demand unit and an outdoor shower. On or first couple of trips everything worked great.

3. For appliances we did go with the Apollo Half-time oven which is a microwave/convection unit with matching cooktop (Works great). For the frig we went with a Norcold DE which runs on both 110v or 12v. We are rigging up our tow vehicle, an 05 Suburban, so the battery will charge in route.

I've got to run but I'll post pictures next time my daughter visits and shows me how! We also installed a hide-a-door separating the bathroom from the living area, a Coleman AC, Jack-knifing sofa/beds we found on site and lots of other stuff I don't have time to go into right now.

We live in Camp Wood, Texas, south of Garner State Park and 70 miles due west of San Antonio up in the hills.

Hey, looks like we got some fellow Texans, howdy yawl (pronounced ya-all for those of you what don't speak Texan!)
