New '63 Safari in Texas

Hey everyone,

Getting ready to pick up my "new" 63 Safari this weekend. Very excited to find this forum and all the knowledge out here.

I've been looking through the archives but I was wondering if anyone can point me to a thread regarding the brakes on these guys. The current brakes seem to be in good condition, but I would like to get them replaced.

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Welcome!!

Before diving into new brakes, you'll want to check out the axles, it can sometimes get tough to match up brake parts to these old things, and if the axle is bad you'd replace it with all new brakes and start new. Chances are if the axle is original its time to replace it. If you go to inlandrv.com you can read about the axle and how to check it out yourself. They (and others) sell replacement axles, we chose to get ours from Andy at Inland, very easy to install.

Thanks. Replacing the Axle seems to be a consistent piece of advice. I sent Inland an email this morning asking for cost (don't know if it's 10' or 12'). I'm not overly mechanical, have you seen a good post on replacing the axle step by step?

Just started reading 8671's story, very cool.

Thanks,
