'63 Safari window seals replacement - should I use glue?

Hi Fellow Airstream lovers, I'm replacing the seals on my 1963 Safari, jalousie type windows, and I'm wondering if I should use a glue / sealant in the groove were the seal slips in. It appears that there was only a little used on the old seals, mainly in the corners. I did one window with no glue, the seal sits in there perfectly & I'm thinking maybe glue isn't necessary? I'd love to hear what some other folks think & have done AND what type of glue. attached is a photo of the type of seal I'm using. (Big thanks to Vintage Trailer Supply!)

This is possibly just a terminology clarification, but the bulb seal you show is not used on Jalousie (i.e. louver style) windows as far as I know. It is used on Hehr Hallmark (i.e. bigger plate glass style) windows with the "T" section going into a groove on the window frame. Which window style are you actually asking about?

If you are asking about the Halmark windows, I cannot see where you would use any glue. I did not use any when I replaced the bulb seal on the Hallmarks in my 1962 Safari. I was able to fold the bulb seal around each corner and made the two ends meet in the middle of the top side of the window.

You're correct, I should not have stated they were jalousie windows. I guess the cranking mechanism made me think they are jalousie type. For a minute I thought I had the wrong seals! They are correct, fortunately. What I have is shown in the photo here on Vintage trailer supply.

My old seals were cut at each corner and thats how I've done 3 of the windows so far. It appears glue was used in the corners, maybe thats why.
Thanks for your response!

I'm working now to replace the seals in my 63's windows, but I'm running into a problem. The old seals appear to be original and they're not coming out easy. How do I get the old seal parts out of the "T" section groove? The old seals are hard an brittle, they're coming out in pieces and some of it I can't get out of the small groves.

You might try spraying some PermaTex Gasket Remover on the old crusty seals to soften them up. Then scrape them out with whatever will fit in the groves. We even used dental pick tools to get in some pretty small cracks. You can get them at Harbor Freight or Amazon.

Be careful with the gasket remover - it burns your skin & melts plastic. Nasty stuff - but it works!
