VIN # Explanation

Hello there! We are new to the Airforums community. My parents have owned since new a 1964 Bambi II that we will start restoring in the Spring. My question is about our VIN #S017410071, does the "S" mean ours was made in California?
I've seen other 1964 Bambi II VIN #'s that state Ohio made when beginning with the S, but found information that might suggest the "S" stands for California?

Our Bambi II (since sold) was CA built - see attached VIN plate.

Thank you so much for the visual! Of all the pictures we took in my parents barn over the weekend, I did not take a picture of the VIN badge. This is very helpful!
There seems to be conflicting information about how many of this model were made. I've seen 250-800 range?
