1964 Bambi Sewer Question

This is really going to be a newbie question.

Our 1964 Bambi has one lever near the bumper. I am assuming this is the release for the sewer. My question is which water is the lever releasing:

1). Black water
2). Black and Gray water

and if the answer is 1). Black water then my assumption would be that the gray water runs out of the outlet all the time.

Unless your Bambi has been modified, it only has a small black tank. The gray runs out to a bucket or blueboy and is disposed of properly at a dump site or the on site sewer connection.

My 64 Bambi did not have a gray water tank. Only one lever and it emptied the black tank. And yes the gray is free flowing. An external "blue" tank is usually for holding gray water if not connected to a sewer dump.

So I purchased a 3" Sewer adapter and hose set and tried to put it on to my Bambi.

The outlet on my bambi has teeth where the adapter locks in. The teeth are the correct size but it seems that the teeth are too high up that the adapter cannot fit.

See picture (note that picture is upside down).

Is my outlet installed upside down thus causing the teeth to be too high up to fit a standard or is it correctly installed and I need a special adapter.

What you probably bought is the current day fitting. If so you need to purchase the adapter that fits current day hose fitting to the early model used in '64. My local RV supply store had the right adapter so I bought 2. You can't find them everywhere.

I could not find the correct adapter anywhere (tried several that did not work).
On my Bambi II I used the original metal end fitting and spliced it onto a modern hose after a little grinding. Do you have the original cast aluminum piece with handle?

What are my options in getting a sewer hose to attach to this outlet?

I think the aluminum parts are like hen's teeth. You may want to retrofit the valve to take the more modern pieces, as well as to locate it somewhere more convenient, like off to the side. I use our black tank as a gray tank and we use a composting toilet.

Sorry but last week I stored the Bambi in our fairgrounds barn for the winter. Either Thetford or Camco makes the piece. It's just white plastic.

You can also purchase a Thetford connection that acts like a cap for your Bambi that has a hose fitting adapter that you can just run a hose from it into the dump area or a disposable portable waste water unit for just your gray water. Then when it is time for the black water, remove and attach your fitting to dispose of your black water waste, and open the valve.
