Cabinet latches

Thanks Jerry! The latches are SeaDog Line push button rim latches. I purchased them through Wholesale Marine (www.wholesalemarine.com) item S-D-224300-1 for the chrome finish. They will sell in a bulk contractor quantity that saves a bit on these. I really like them as they are a nice flush finish and latch very securely. I used 1/2" Baltic birch for the cabinet doors and glued small 1/4" birch plywood patches on the insides of the doors where the hardware was fitted so that the latches and any hinges used were compatible as they are meant for 3/4" stock. I tried to keep the weight gain down as much as possible but still ended up just over 3000# loaded. That's why I have a lightly used #3000 axle available and am in the midst of installing a 3500# unit along with shocks.
Can't wait to meet you in TN this July. I will be camping with the vintage club folks.

“there's a guy on this forum who removed all the original GT windows and installed white home depot vinyl windows. along with a lot of other remodel upgrades that just destroyed the trailer.”

GZ,
I agree with your opinion regarding the thoroughly butchered 1963 globe trotter. Pretty sure, it’s the most abhorrent airstream restoration thread ever published on airforums. It still haunts me.

It was the summer of 2016, the 63GT’s agonizing screams could be heard across the forum.
Many of us watched in horror. Its torture lasted over a year, and was never heard of since.

I hope that tormented little trailer found some peace, and has a life of adventure.

OMG! Not sure how I missed that thread before...maybe it's better that I did - until now! WOW! I can't un-see it!

The funny thing about the photos is that they looked normal in Windows 10 file explorer. I originally shoot them with my iPhone which produces a .heic photo file. That is an Apple format. To do anything with them I use an app to convert them to .jpg format. My guess is there is something from that process causing them to act "funny" at times.
This is the outside this March in New Orleans.

Not sure if you'll ever have interest in replacing the non-original rear bumper on your Airstream but there is a company that makes front bumpers for large commercial vans and the pattern is very similar to the original Airstream rear bumper.
I bought one years ago for an Airstream I was restoring.

I took another look at the Airstream Abomination thread - What a horrible thing to do to an Airstream.

I'm surprised the guy didn't use sheetrock on the interior walls?

Yes, I've thought about that rear bumper too. I don't think the '65 Caravel had the rear bumper storage box that many other models of that vintage have. The non-original bumper is useful for storage of my sewer hose which I find very useful. It's kinda like the AC unit; not original, nor good looking, but boy it is nice to have on a hot day. The bumper doesn't bother me as much as the AC unit that I installed last fall. I searched all summer long to find a smaller BTU (under 10KBTU) lower profile unit and everyone was sold out/backordered due to the huge spike in RV sales. I think the PenguinII looks the best but I don't think it's longer footprint will fit with the original Hehr vent that is located in the area right behind it. As soon as a suitable replacement can be found I plan on replacing the Mach3 with a smaller unit.

Jwschnettl, do you have your own thread? I turned your photos. Way too pretty to look at while standing on our heads. Nice work.Click image for larger version
