Well......it took me 44 years of living but I finally molded the Caravel I'd always wanted. I purchased this trailer about 5 years ago and desperately wanted to redo the interior but couldn't afford it. Well, my wife and I own an internet business and we had a great year last year so I finally took the plunge. I'm including photos of the new interior. Replaced is the oven (I just can't do a microwave.....camping is about taking your time and relaxing), counter top (with granite), sink (I love copper), upholstery and carpet. Life is good!!
Well your question is certainly a good one John. I decided to keep the sofa rather than go for a larger TV as I decided I might want to sit down.....or sleep.....every so often. Perhaps I'll find a suitable substitute

Please be advised that Caravels and Bambi's from 1968 and older, have a very large axle spindle failure rate along with the rubber rods failing.
We ship out an average of an axle per week, to help someone stranded, because a spindle sheared on those models.
When that happens, addition damages to the trailer usually happen as well.
Use the local facilities. You may find that you can rip out the whole shower/toilet arrangement and replace it with a 72" flat screen.

Andy,
Actually......you and I went around on this a few years ago. I wanted to purchase an axle from you all and have it installed by Airstream in Jackson Center but apparently things weren't good between the two of you. After much back and forth, I finally purchased an axle from you and had it sent to Ohio. They picked it up from some location close to Jackson Center and installed it. You should be able to find my purchase information under "Thad Humphrey" if you keep purchase information. In any event, the new axle is working great and I'm confident that I won't fall victim to the maladies I've seen so many other 65 Caravels fall victim to. Thanks for your concern though.
Just out of curiosity, how is it that Andy can "clearly tell from your photo" that the axle is bad. Can you determine this simply by looking at a photo?
That's a beautiful Caravel! Usually I'm all 'no Caravel is nicer than mine!', but I have to admit, yours is pretty darn nice I won't let my hubby put a TV in ours though!

Sure can, with an accuracy of about 99 percent.
Anybody can do it.
Stoop down about 20 feet away from the side of your Airstream.
You should see 2 to 3 inches of the tire/tires, "ABOVE" the top of the wheel/wheels.
If you don't then the axles are bad.
Sometimes, owners are not aware that their axles are bad, when you can't even see the top of the wheels, let alone any tire.
Then for confirmation, check the position of the torsion arm.
Wait a sec! if Fun2bethad posted that photo, and Andy thinks the axle is bad, and Fun2bethad says it it's brand new (from Andy, no less!) then what's goin' on?
a) Was the exterior photo taken pre-replacement?
b) Was it incorrectly installed?
c) Has the new one already gone belly up?
d) Or is this that 1% situation where you guessed incorrectly, Andy?
Regardless, I'd sure hate going through the expense and trouble of getting a brand new axle... only to STILL be told it looked all wrong!
I would guess the difference is in the angle of the photos. Notice Andy said to stoop down and look at the tire, but the photo is from a standing position.

I have enjoyed working on Airstreams for over 42 years, because I am not perfect, like a few might like to believe.
If I was perfect, I certainly wouldn't want to be around Airstreams.
Way too much uncertainty with the product and a select few.
I have noticed over the years, that those that find faults, seldom make posts.
Hmmm.
Lets find a fault and pick it to pieces, just like the Marathon tires. How educational and informative.
