Replacement Fridge for my 1969 Caravel

Hi,

My fridge is not cooling and I'm sure it has leaked it's coolant based upon a yellow residue around the burner.

I'd love to fix if possible but all my investigations have pointed to this not being possible (not sure why a leak cannot be fixed and the unit recharged...but I'm far from being an expert.

Therefore, does anyone know where I can buy a replacement that won't require me to modify the existing cabinets? The trailer is close to original and I'd like to keep it that way.

My Model is MA40C and says Dometic on the door but has Electrlux on the id plate. A previous enquiry in the Reefer Forum indicated that Dometic had no history of this model.

thanks in advance,

Dometic Freedom RM 2410 or RM 2510 should be the correct width. Newer models are about 1" wider. The 2510 is taller.

The fridge in our Caravel developed a leak while on a trip to the east coast. The unit was in otherwise good shape. I was able to have the cooling unit replaced. It was less than the cost of a new unit, even with the labor. I could have changed it out myself, but was able to get professional help for a hundred or so bucks and found it well worth it.

You might check with this company to see if they can rebuild it...

RVCOOL.COM - Supplier of rebuilt cooling units for Norcold and Dometic RV Refrigerators.

So happy to say that I finally found a replacement Dometic for my Caravel. Removed the old one and replaced with the used one a couple of weeks ago. Just came back from our first trip and it performed flawlessly. It was 30C outside and the fridge stayed at 3C and the freezer at -11C. Sooooo nice not to have to wrestle with coolers and ice.

The cold beer were great too.
