Zip Dee Awning

Greetings,

I've got a problem with the big awning on my 86 Excella. As I try to pull the awning out it gets stuck after coming out about 2 inches. It feels like is is stuck or "hanging up" on something. All latches are released but I can't budge it after 2 inches. Has anybody else had this problem?

There is a little "lever" in the top right hand corner and I have tried in in both positions....but to no avail.
Thanks for any thoughts you might have!

Is it getting hung up on the stove vent? I had that issue (wore a hole in the awning) until I made a modification to the vent on my '86 Sovereign. If not, they usually do take a big of a tug to get them going.

The little lever should be in the "out" position. It is a lock for the reel.

Many thanks Aviator,

The lever is in the out position....but still not working. I called Zip Dee and they said the lock could be broken and may need to be replaced....hmmm. A couple of friends are coming over tonight and maybe we can just "horse" it out of there. I guess if the little lock is already broken I can do too much damage at this point.

Thanks again!

It sounds like you have a Z lock. Inside there is an alloy gear with teeth that often break and cause it to get stuck. If you keep jiggling it you may get the teeth to engage so you can open it. If you take it apart you can move the gear 180 degrees so the broken teeth are not being used and get some more life out of it. But if I was going through that much trouble I would just replace the Z lock unit.

If you end up messing around with the spring end of the roller be careful. It bites!
