I have a 25ss and I am looking to move up to a 28. We really like the Slide out and the added space. We are not sure if I should stick with the regular 28 or go with the slide, I have been working deals on both. Any feedback?
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Some folks like the slideouts, but they add a lot of weight to the coach, especially for the room gained. There is also a level of complication involved (more things to break), as well as another source of leaks.
That said, they do add room to the living area, which is a good thing.

In addition to increasing weight, a slide out tends to raise the centre of gravity, especially if it needs to clear the tires of a trailer. It appears that the designers increase tongue weight to ensure stability. (European caravans work fine with 7% tongue weight because the centre of gravity is kept very low.) Check the tongue weights; they may be well over 1000 lbs, and a one-ton truck may become essential, regardless of the GVWR of the trailer.
I wouldn't trade our non-slide 28 for one with a slide. We virtually never would make use of the additional floor space that the slide would open up, but we would sure miss the storage that the slide subtracts. I have plenty of tongue weight as it is.
The slide would actually make for a poorer layout, IMHO, as far as locating and watching the TV.
