Hp

Franktr,
When it is humid outside, we have not had a good experience running the heat pump as it draws in the moisture from the outside air. With high humidity, we use the furnace set to 60-65 degrees. We are comfortable with little moisture buildup inside the Airstream.

We use the heat pumps with success when the outside humidity is lower and the temperatures are in the 35-50 degree range. Ceiling will be warm, your feet is another story. The heat pump is going to cycle on and off when the temperatures are between 42 to 30 degrees. Once the outside temperature reaches below 30 degrees, your system is going to automatically switch over to the furnace. You must make sure your propane tank(s) are OPEN even if you are using the heat pump, so that your furnace can start!

When in AC mode, the unit cools the air and removes moisture. When in heat pump mode, it is just the opposite. It warms the air and adds moisture.

It switched to furnace because the HP only is effective down to around 40 degrees. I am surprised that if you had it set to 'HP' that it switched to "Furn" though. I would think that only happens when you have the mode set to "Auto". Good to know that if you select HP, it will automatically switch to FURN when it needs to.

I’ve read the manuals (Dometic, Airstream) and this automatic switching to furnace is described in one or both. Like it’s cooling function, the heat pump function has a temperature operating range and a certain maximum delta. If the unit can cool around 20 degrees below ambient; I would think it can only heat around 20 degrees above ambient.but less as temperatures drop into the low 50s or high 40s. So, on comes the furnace to make you comfortable. To keep from using the furnace, I have options and bring an electric heater or two along when those kind lows are expected. I love the oil filled models for steady quiet operation or radiant model to warm us up quickly.

What is the outer body shell length of the 23FB ? Not including rear bumper/storage.

Posted this on general forum and was suggested to try here.

Thanks !

I'm not near my 23FB, so I can not measure it. Since the tip to tip is 23'9", I would guess its very close to 20 feet at its longest point. Bumper storage is about 9" and the tongue 3'. Keep in mind its less at the floor and more in the middle. The tail light add length as does the front window protectors / wind screen.

Square Footage?

We just purchased a 23FBT (downsizing from a 27FB), and are very excited. So glad to have found this informative thread. Does anyone know the actual square footage of this model? Thanks in advance.

We always assumed 8x20=160, but never played a tape to the task.

Will be interested to hear how your down size works. You may have developed a cure for twoftitis. If marketed well, it could save a lot of ASers considerable future expenditure.

Glad to have you aboard. Hope to meet you down the road. Pat

AS Dealer measured one on lot and said it is 20' 8" so good guess. Thanks. Per original post elsewhere, ran into a couple of parks that do not allow RV less than 20' body length.

jackmgm46. Welcome to the 23FB thread. Interested to hear why you downsized? I’ve heard of others that did, but mostly hear of upsizing. We love our 23FB, but until now haven’t been taking really long trips. I told my wife about the twin option in the 23, she wasn’t really interested. I thought it might be a way to add some roominess. Are the twins the same dimensions as the twins in the 25FB twin?

Thank you! We downsized for several reasons: (a) bigger bathroom, (b) 80" twin beds are longer than our "queen" (I'm 6'4"), with more outside storage and a hall down the middle for our large boxer dog to sleep in (instead of our bed), (c) more agility and able to get into smaller spots, (d) less tongue and overall weight allowing us to haul more and put a camper top on the back of our F150 3.5 EcoBoost, (e) we generally like to minimize, and (f) my interior designer wife loves the GT walnut decor. My only real concern is the smaller tank sizes, but we'll work around that. We also had a Fiamma bike rack installed, which I never wanted to do in our 27FB because it would block the dinette view. We are very excited!

Good downsizing move IMO. BTW you need to change your trailer ID info to the left.

6'-4 - same here. Lengthened the bed with a section of 1/4" ply and a 1x2 fiddle on the foot. Now have full size queen mattress in place of the short queen. Did have to upgrade the lift struts. Pat

jackmgm46, thanks for the reply. We are going to stay with the 23FB for the foreseeable future. Our Tundra pulls it easily. Going to a bigger trailer might mean a bigger TV. We haul a screen room, generator, 2 person kayak, 2 bikes, and other junk (including blue tank in case tanks get full). So far, knock on wood, we’ve not had issues on a 7 night stay with tanks filling. I’ve added water though. I’m 6’5” and the queen is fine for me. We had a corner bed model when we started. Just couldn’t make it work.

Pantry

Anyone have an idea on how to remove the pantry enough so I wire the pantry racks so the don’t fall. I have wired the front and it helps but need to wire the back

Frank - There should be a release on the support slides. And while the racks are out, make sure the slide attachments are firmly installed. Some folks reported a problem with the mounting, but ours were OK. Pat

Front window bug shield anchor screws

I have a 2019 23FB and have trouble with the 1/4 turn screws that hold the front bug shields in place. When I went to clean behind the shields I found that the catches that the screws catch where stripped out. So I had to improvise with short sheet metal screws to hold it. Anyone else having this problem? And or a solution to this problem? Thanks
