We replaced our mattress with an RV queen size but doesn't have the notched corners. Works just fine. In fact, sheets are much easier to find and don't cost as much.

No, we make do with the fact it's a little long. The comfort, the ability to use our standard linens, and 26,000 miles, 29 states, and one province have proved the concept.

Just want to be clear....we put on a "down feather" thick mattress pad.

I re read it and it looked confusing to me. Good luck in your search,..btw, out pad costs as much as a new mattress, I'm sure.

You may want to check out this link. After hearing all kinds of good things about his product, we just made a purchase for our at-home bed. We've only had it a few days now but so far we love it. They have a 120 day return policy (they pay the shipping) so you've really nothing to lose by trying them out. They stock an rv queen and I believe they also do custom.

The OEM mattress has long been the subject of complaints. We bought a 2" topper rated "medium". They had hard, soft and medium, and not knowing anything, we chose medium. It is comfortable. You might try to add another 2" soft one to get the feel you want.

The bed was too short for us, so I screwed a piece of plywood to the luan plywood under the bed and moved the mattress down 4". My wife made a bolster out of scraps to fit in the space at the head of the bed and I cut a piece of plywood to fit into the bottom of the bolster—this gives fitted sheets something to hold onto. We use standard queen sheets, a lot cheaper than special RV sheets.

We had a local mattress factory duplicate the factory foam mattress' in our 25 Safari with rounded corners. New mattress' are inner spring and are much better than the skimpy foam pads which came stock. Cost for two twins was a little over $400.
They were still not soft and supportive enough so we purchased memory foam pads (about $70 a piece) at Costco and cut them to fit.
Now we wake up without pain and stiffness.

You could look at the selection of knockoff tempurpedics at Walmart.com. I got a queen memory foam shipped for around $260. Not quite as good as the real deal but the value is there and a major upgrade. You want two layers of foam. Usually a base layer of high density(Hard) foam 5" or so and then topped with a 2" or 3" memory foam(Soft). You need that base layer otherwise you would sink into the mattress. I used to make futons and foam mattresses at my old job. Any resizing of the foam can easily be done with an electric carving knife. No joke. Lay the matrass on a large flat surface. Make sure it is pushed as small as possible from each side and square. Using a straight edge mark up with a sharpie. Then using the electric knife trim down the line. Best results will come from many shallow cuts down the line versus one long deep cut. One deep cut tends to give a sloped edge that isn't very square.
