looking for lost Jimmy Buffett Airstream
A recent topic in a Buffett RV forum brought up this old Airstream
Short story is was auctioned off to a couple in VA but it was too big for them. It was rumored to have been at a Virginia RV dealer but has been lost since then. Anyone heard from this highly collectable Airstream? Look at that hitch setup- LOL
Thanks / Rob

That trailer is an Avion, not an Airstream.
Someone here might have some information. We have some Avion owners and a bunch of Parrot Heads here.

i am so sorry, i would guess calling an airstream an avion could be a major party foul.

Somehow I must doubt that Buffett would have his name on the side of his RV. I mean what would he be doing with an RV to begin with?
A man of his means probably flies to all his venues. So perhaps no need for a luxury bus or huge motor home. Course he could afford either with his pocket change.
I suppose he might have it driven to his gigs by some roadie so Jimbo would have a place to kick back and get dressed in. And that cutie in the fourth row would have a place to get undressed in.....
I mean you don't think Jimmy is gonna be found camping at the KOA or the state park do ya?
Would you pay extra for an Airstream (or Avion) cause it used to belong to a celebrity?
How much extra? Why?
Which celeb's former trailer should bring the most?
So do you think it might help sell one if you crafted a "celeb used to own it " story and hired a sign painter?

The story has it that he used it during his early touring years. It sat at his parents place on the Gulf Coast until he auctioned it off through the Parrot head Club.
Now-a-days he seems to focus some really cool aluminum planes.

The Avion in post # 1 is about a 1981-85 vintage. The tell-tale signs are the Duo-Therm furnace vents.

I'd be pretty excited if I found Alton Browns Airstream, but I doubt I'd put down a premium for it over any similar condition AS. It would just be a fun story to tell.
Now ask the guy with the Paris Hilton trailer...

Alton sold his rig a couple of years ago. It appeared in at least as couple of episodes of 'Good Eats'.

Traveling to gigs on tour... makes sense if tour dates/venues are close together. Tours do have budgets even the headliner respects. Most folks rent the tour buses nowadays & do so w/o their names plastered on the bus announcing them.

More often than not, not a roadie. Professional driver. Got alot of $$ invested in the headliner & tour logistics. Also, usually have another bus or two for ancillary staff - sound, lights, management, techs and background musicians/singers on contract.
And you nailed it on the head about the cutie on the 4th row (usually 1st or 2nd row though, hard to see past the first two rows in a large venue with stage lights on you ). Bus is a good place to chill between sets or before the show. Can restrict access easily which is difficult backstage in the dressing rooms.
Can tell you from experience, these buses ain't your daddy's Greyhound...

thanks for all the replies,
first no i am not trying to sell, pass off or have anything to do with the sale of this fine RV (if it was even to be found). I am just a Buffett fan (and owner of a cedar creek 5th wheel) who said, wow maybe that thing is sitting in someone's yard and they dont know its history.
Back in Jimmy's early days he didn't have the mass marketing that he has now. It also looks like a radio station has their logo toward the front.
thanks again for all the information

I do believe Buffett owned/owns an Airstream. I he has a album with a video of him in a recording studio using one as a sound booth. I believe it may be his studio in the keys are where ever it is located. Of course he thought they all looked better as beer cans.

Buffett Airstream
Considering Buffett thinks of trailers a being better off at beer cans, I doubt it if he ever slept in one. Another give a way as to the date of this Avion is the rubber window frames.

If you look close, you can see the Logo of a local FM radio station, 'SURF 107.1' which was located in Wilmington, NC.
The AS may have been painted for a local promotion by the radio station...maybe, All Buffett, All day...or maybe they were involved during one of Jimmy's appearances...just my 2 cent's worth...
Jimmy doesn't name his 'toys' after himself...usually after a song lyric, book character, album theme, etc...

I don't see the reason for doubting that Jimmy Buffett would own an RV. After all Mathew McCaunehey (SP?) has one, Dolly Pardon has a B-van that she and her husband tour in when they take a real vacation, Pamela Anderson has an Airstream, Tom Cruise owns an Airstream, Julia Roberts owns an Airstream, and the list goes on. Where do you suppose they camp?

I case you missed it, here's Matthew M.'s airstream.
I also saw the episode where they renovated Pamela Anderson's airstream. I am sure Wally had a lighted stripper pole in his airstream as well .

Thanks for bringing this up. My wife is a Parrot Head, and I'll print this pic off for her.
But I am curious whether the "recent topic in a Buffett RV forum" used the term "Airstream" or not. Hmmm. Maybe they didn't know...
The hitch setup is a goose-neck.
I wonder if that that type of hitch (used primarily for commercial trailers such as horse trailers, farm haulers and car transporters) was used before the 5th wheel (which is pretty much standard for the bigger SOBs) was "invented". (Hmmm when was the 5th wheel, as we know it for travel trailers, "invented"? Tractor-trailers are all 5th wheel setups.)
5th wheels and goose-neck trailer connections to the tow vehicle transfer weight differently and handle better than "bumper tows". Maybe I'll convert mine. Maybe not .
