It's handled!

My cabinet handles came in today. I had ordered them a week ago from Lee Valley. I paid very little, but the quality is most excellent. the chrome is flawless, and they have a nice weight to them. I spent a littel time after office hours today installing them. I bought two sizes of the same design, smaller ones for the little drawers, and large ones for the cabinet doors.
Here's what they look like installed:

More lights!

Last week I installed more of the same lights that are recesseed in the ceiling. I recessed 2 intothe bottomof the front overhead cabinet, 2 more above the galley, 2 more above the bed, and 2 for above the sink.
I also wired and installed a frosted glass light inside the bathroom, above the toilet. i am very pleased so far with the lights. I have lots of flexibility to adjust lights to needs, or to save battery power by using only lights where needed. There is now a total of 18 recessed Xenon 10W lights on 8 circuits.

I made this contraption to hold a pair of recessed lights above the vanity. I used an old fashioned pull switch for this one. My plan is to fabricate maple fillers to cover the still open sides.

Fabric

Here are our fabric choices. The top grey is barkcloth for the curtains, center red is for the upholstery, the grey, orange and black are for accents like pillows and perhaps valances. They grey barkcloth is Alfie Grey, the upholstery is Knoll Textile's Cuddle Cloth in Torch ( Upholstery) Ash ( pillows and accents). I forgot the names of the other two colors.

Help!

My first choice for curtain fabric is backordered for 6-8 weeks at reprodepot.com . Dang.
If anyone has seen this material, please let me know where I can buy it. It is called Alfie Barkcloth Grey.
Here is a picture of it once more.

Slide out pantry pics

Yesterday Didi and I finished the slideout pantry. Her part was lining the shelves after I fabricated and installed everything. ( with her supervision, of course).
I ( we) decided to do stainless shelf fronts instead of wood, and buck rivet them to the 1/4in shelves. Works great, btw.

Here the result:

Spent a few hours stripping and polishing the inside of the door. I found severe filiform corrosion under the powdery Zolatone. G9 polish actually cut through it, but not all the way. This is after about 5 passes with G9 and 2 passes with Heavy Metal course polish.
I might re-skin this inside section after all. Looks like it's too far gone. Re-skinning is easier on my arms than trying to polish the filiform corrosion.

Sorry about the filiform corrosion. Nothing like hard work to let you know you have more work to do. The hardest thing about seeking perfection, is living in an imperfect world.

Well said, Don. Like today, when I spent my evening with a Dremel tool with little wire wheel inserts cleaning the door edge, then proudly installing the gasket, only to find out that the door will not close with the gasket in place. Major bummer. I removed the door gasket, and will have to revisit this tomorrow. Tomorrow was when I was going to start on the propane runs under teh trailer. So now that's delayed. 8 days until Baja....

nice trailer find

looks like a stretched out version of my 62 globetrotter, and yes that is a hand parking brake. sounds loke somebody changed one of your brake drums with a replacement electric one. all i had was the same hydraulic hand master cyl controlled ones for parking only originally ,before upgrading to the electric drum/magnets set up. i experienced the same wheel offset change from split rims to tubeless type later rims. wave fun, wayne wunder 62 globetrotterw.b.c.c.i./v.a.c.#1859

Wayne,
there is nothing left of this old system now. I went with new axles and hydraulic disc brakes activated by an electric/hydraulic actuator. Might be overkill for a light vintage trailer like mine, but better safe than sorry.
Your post reminds me of when I started this project. Yikes.

Audio

Being that I am busting my hump to make the Overlander ready for Baja next week, I figured why not add to the confusion and try for a decent audio solution....well, here's what I found out.
Bose Acoustimass 3 system, Denon mobile audio 120W amplifier, i-pod, Apple powerbook.

I rigged this system to work temporarily, and am very impressed with it so far. The bass module is the smallest that Bose makes, and the satellite cubes are tiny. I got a white system, so it sort of blends in with the walls. The amplifier is a leftover from a system a had in one of my cars a while back.
I use the headphone out from the ipod, with a specialty adapter cable, and go straight into the power amp's RCA inputs. The ipod controls the volume.
I must say that it sounds really good! I am somewhat picky when it comes to sound quality, but this is more than acceptable to me.
Jazz vocals have a warm immediacy to them, Rock 'n Roll has enough punch and bass, and classical music sounds crisp and natural.
The speakers are on my curbside countertop, but can be heard very well in front, too. It sounds very good when lounging on the bad.
The same system can also accept audio input from a laptop, and then play movies with good sound through the laptop, or use my Powerbook's i-tunes library for hours of music by choice.
What I do not have available with this setup is commercially available programming, such as radio or TV. Might be a good thing, though.

Stero

Our son bought a 350Z earlier this year. The first thing he did was upgrade the system in his car. So we got the stock system from the 350Z. 6 speakers and a receiver set that will play CD's. I am in the process right now on installing the wiring in the Bambi for this system. As you can tell I don't know a lot of the language to explain the system. The main thing I noticed when it was in his car was that it sounded great to my old ears. I will be anxious to hear what it sounds like in the Bambi. Once the wiring, insulation and inner skins are back on I will feel like I have passed a great mile stone.
I too would like to get together some day. Maybe we can plan for a rebuilders rally somewhere where the current builders can get together and drool over each others work!

Uwe, Don, Carlos & all other vintage trailer rebuilders:

We would love to have you join us at our Rocky Mt. Vintage Airstream Rally, a convenient and lovely gathering place. This year we're in Creede, CO; click below my name for details. If any of you are interested, alone or together, in putting on a seminar or informal presentation(s) on trailer rebuilding issues and solutions, tricks and tips, or to-die-for upgrades, we'll provide the setting, opportunity, equipment, and many pairs of oogling eyes. If this year isn't convenient, plan for next year. We'd be delighted to have you explain and show off your awesome craftsmanship. Hope you can join us, the sooner the better!

I hope to be finished with our trailer long before August. It's important to dream. I looked at the site. Wow what a beautiful place. We'll keep it in mind and make contact as the project gets closer to the finish stage.

OK, Don.
I went to the RMVAC Rally in 200? with my 71 TradeWind in tow, and it was a blast. I met very many, and very nice people, including KenJ, and Fred.
August is still a ways away, might be a possibility.
I do want to tow to Austin TX in July, for a tradeshow, might be too much to go out for a long tow again in August, but maybe not.
