Why doesn't the search function work?

When I do a search, it just brings up a lot of random threads that don't even include any of the key words.

Use Google and put Airforums in front of the search phrase.

Expanding on Michael's (AWCHIEF) insight, the correct syntax to limit Google's search to a single site is the use of the "site:" modifier anywhere in the search string (first, last, middle, etc.). Just add the site's url immediately following the colon (no separating space).

Here’s a list of the top 10 search modifiers for your use. Substitute your term for the word query below. For example, use pdf with FileType or even mp3, jpg, wmv, etc. "Site:" can be used with .net, .org, etc. The minus sign means exclude.

“query”
–query
Query AND query
Query OR query
Site:query.com
Inurl:query
Intitle:query
Filetype:query
Related:query
Inpostauthor:query

Google might be the way to go, but...
Why even have a search function if it doesn't do anything?
There was a time when it actually worked.

The forum search always works for me, but you need to be aware it strips out common terms and anything shorter than 3 letters. It's basically searching thru the database. Google search crawls the site and then compiles a slightly more intelligent search than what's built into vBulletin.

The forum search function works but the amount of stuff it has to wade through has grown enormously. What you want will rarely appear at the top of the found items unless there a very limited number of "hits." Refining your search through Google helps sequence the stuff you want towards the top of the list returned.

It just simply will not do a key word search.
I tried Google and it found the thread I was looking for- first result-
Now I know what to do-

I subscribe to many forums and find that in the vast majority, the search function is an afterthought. I've given up using any of them.

As SeeMore alluded to, I use the Google search engine and include the term site:airforums.com to limit my search.

A more user friendly page to provide advanced search criteria for Google can be found at Google Advanced Search

While it is not as effective as Google, try putting your search term in quotes, such as "portable solar".

It must be me but trying to find information on ( best RV water filter ) turns up rivet corrosion? I will try quotation marks.

Tried quotation marks within forum search. Nothing , please help me find the things I need and want to know without starting a new post. I have been on the form for some time now and I have yet to find the answer to anything on the search tab. If it doesn't work lets take it off and save the space. Please if you are going to find info on the Airstream site under RV water filters showing me what I am doing wrong would also be helpful. Yes I have tried advanced search.
Love the site hate the search tab.
Thanks
