Thread reply limitation?

Is this something new or am I just missing something?
Some threads are especially entertaining and deserving of more than 50 replies IMHO.

There are threads on this forum with several hundred replies. There is no limit on the number of replies. Replies are simply broken into several sections as the reply count passes certain numbers.

I encountered that message when I attempted to post a reply to a popular thread and the "post reply" option was not available.
Perhaps just a glitch.

Maybe a glitch or the thread could have been closed, there won't be a reply button if it was.
