Gene -- go to your User CP. At left under Settings & Options, select Edit Options. In the Messaging & Notifications frame you are offered the chance to set your Default Thread Subscription Mode. You can choose do not subscribe, subscribe w/o emails, subscribe w instant emails (a bit intense), subscribe w daily emails, or subscribe w weekly emails. I believe subscribing would only occur with threads subscribed to after you change the setting.
The subscription feature is glitchy and will remain so until tech staff announces that the vBulletin upgrade is complete. That might be less than a month to more than two. Won't know it til we know it.

still they come.
i do NOT want to loose the long and current subscription list, DON'T screw with my subscriptions...
AND WARN US IN ADVANCE IF THE SUBSCRIPTION LIST IS AT RISK (because we can 'save' a copy) but...
PLEASE JUST DISABLE the email automatic notifications, KILL THIS FEATURE, KILL IT FOR EVERYONE!!!!!

Thanks Bob, it worked and it's true, it doesn't catch up on the subscription list. I was looking at that frame this morning, but misinterpreted it.

I HINGE on your thread responses, 2air, and always assumed you reciprocated.
I'm crushed! Perhaps I should start PMing you when I respond to one of your posts?
Just kidding,
Tom

I'm glad someone else has this problem and said something about it. I've been cleaning out 30+ emails a day - just changed my settings to None and hoping it works.
The singing telegram however - I do like.....

I may be the minority on this but I do like the emails. It keeps me current on the threads that I am active in. Different strokes for different folks.

Like others, mine went from no emails, auto subscribe (the way I like it) to a sudden barrage of midnight e-mails for every thread I had ever subscribed. I selected no email notification and didn't get any e-mails on the new subscriptions but all of the old ones kept ringing through on my PDA at midnight .
A mis-worded request to one of the Mods fixed the problem but I did loose all of my subscriptions...I guess thats better than the midnight wakeup call.

I'm with Jack. I want to be notified when a thread I'm subscribed to gets a response rather than to go on a wild goose chase to see if there are any new responses to a needle in a hay stack!

IF u subscribe to a thread, new postings WILL show up at the user CP
IF u want email notifications, fine have them.
the ISSUE is getting dozens/hundreds of email notifications routinely...
they are NOT wanted.

*Rant Alert*
I can read just fine.
I even LIKE to read.
I just don't want to wade through unwanted emails.
My user CP works well. It tells me when there is a new post to a thread I am suscribed to. I like my user CP.
I don't need my email to duplicate what the user CP does. I don't want my email to be another user CP. It already takes me 45 minutes to an hour each morning to separate the wheat from the chaff. Only after THAT is done can I go back and actually READ my email. Things were working fine up until about a month ago... What happened?
I do NOT want anymore email notifications.
And I still do NOT like green eggs and ham!!
*Rant Over*

Save 'em while you can then. I've no clue how they'll cross over when we get the vBulletin upgrade. No timetable offered. Just a word to the wise [waah! I wanna play wordgames too!].

I've seen no changes on this board as was described above...However, on another board I belong to, (and post to less frequently) about two months or so ago I stopped getting my e-mail notifications from that board. I went in and repeatedly checked my user cp settings but they always said that I was to get e-mail notifications re: new post to my subscribed threads. I tried changing every setting and applying the changes and going back and changing them back and applying the settings again after changing back...nothing.
Suddenly, about a week ago all of these e-mail notifications start showing up in my e-mail box that I had new post to the threads I had subscribed to, some from months ago. My guess is that that forum got their vbulletin upgrade installed ahead of airforums.com and everything is back to normal now. Let's just wait and see if everything doesn't work out before we go ballistic with our computers.

One of the things I have done is to set up a Yahoo email account whose only purpose in life is to collect notifications from this site for subscribed threads and postings from list serves that I subscribe to. That keeps my main email account clean for normal use.
