shameless and sometimes rude self promotion

I was curious why a commercial vendor can blatantly promote his company on this forum. Do they pay for this kind of publicity? Can I use this forum to promote my business also?

No, there is no commercial relationship between this website and commercial vendors (identified in their avatar area). Promotion of non-Airstream business is considered spam and will be removed. There are quite specific vendor guidelines in the Community Rules at the bottom of each and every AIR Forums page. Application of those guidelines is reviewed in internal moderator discussions with some regularity. We are aiming to be as consistent as possible by having vendor-promoting threads come out of the vendor subforum (restrictions on how often are applied) and we do try to control the content when they post in general threads.

There are a couple handfuls of vendors who regularly provide input. Many come and go and do not use us to the allowed limits.

This has been a bone of contention for some members here. We encourage anyone to PM a moderator about any issue. Public discussion will be controlled in accordance with the Community Rules on the following points:
  • Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully.
  • This forum is not intended to be a mechanism for people to vent frustrations about vendors or sales from private parties.

I don't want t get slammed for this, but I don't believe that that statement to be 100% accurate. I've heard from more than one source that there is a commercial vendor that has financial intrests or ties to this website.

You will see banner advertising through Google Ads. This is subject related and not chosen by this site. Vendor participation in the Supporting Member program is neither elicited nor does it carry any weight. There is no vendor tied to this site by any means whatsoever! It is enthusiast and volunteer run for the most part -- this is what the site owner has charged us to do. He has commercial interest in this and other online community sites alone. Lucky us!

Hey, it could be worse! When Stew Oleson started his forum for RVRoadStew, we had all sorts of commercial vendors posting like crazy at the beginning. It was a really major problem: I had to delete posts constantly.

Oh, I forgot to add that the commercial vendors were vending porn.

I am a volunteer worker for this forum and if this was true or If I even thought it might be true I would quickly resign my post.

I can relate.......

It is frustrating for me when I do a Google search and get nothing but
Amazon trying to sell me books. But it seems that there are no free lunches.
I get annoyed with junk mail, spam, and worse yet people throwing unwanted newspapers on my lawn. One vendor in particular on this forum has most definetly earned the right to give a plug for his business. He has helped me so many times and or guided me away from my stupidity.

That being said.....Does anyone need a stupid mandolin player to play at your campsite? I don't work cheap, and I have been known to play a wrong note here and there. I am not much to look at, and most camping food gives me gas. Most people find my sense of humor annoying, so most employers actually pay me extra to leave. But I am an eager honest musician who doesn't drink everyday. Please send $35 and a self addressed stamped envelope, and I will gladly send you a brouchure.

Vendors vending

I only know of ONE thay is always quoting prices in his response to HELPING members. By the way I sell new electric scooters for $695 that go 30 miles between charging and do not need a license plate. Great for camping.

Send a message via Skype™ to Melody Ranch
Classified area

I think we should make it a requirement that our Classified users be required to post whether or not they are Commercial. Many have good items, but if they want to advertise or sell.....the Forums take "donations." Airstream "flippers" fall into this catagory.

Lightbulb Doesn't seem to be a problem with most members....

...and besides, you can always hit the "Ignore Button" if it's only a handful of vendor's posts that bug you ~

They are allowed as long as they make it clear they are a commercial vendor. Those are the rules. If it gets ugly they get warned and eventually locked out. Is there a problem? I would prefer to support the smal business onwer over large corporations.
