Server or Software Problems?

We seem to be experiencing connection problems of a severe nature in the last 2 days. My pages load at a snails pace and get hung up while loading, sometimes for 90 seconds. ( dsl connection)
I can not view pictures in the photo site, neither could I log on to the chat room.
I know it's free, I know it's volunteer driven, and I appreciate it very much.
What would it take to make the site work better again, I wonder?

Anyone else getting these same problems? Speeds have been pretty much the same since we moved for me.

FYI - The photo site will be up and running again in the next 3-5 days. I finally gave up and am having the vendor fix the issue. Sorry for the dealy in getting that site fully functional. I will post an update when it is fixed.

I have DSL and I've only seen an increase in performance since the server migration.

I had issues with the chat room too, but it was caused by pre Mac OS 10.3. Safari still does not work well at all on the chat room, even using 10.3.1 with the latest and greatest updates and patches.

I.E. 5.2.3 running on Mac OS 10.3.x work very well on the chat rooms. I chatted for over an hour or so a week ago!

No problems, neither on DSL nor on T1

Great news on the photos.

I only have issue with chat. I normally need to reload it once or twice to login, then I am fine. I am on a Cable modem.

I have a cable modem at home and a T1 line to our ISP at work. I have seen no problems since the upgrade. The only noticible effect has been quicker response times.

I am running OS9.2 with Internet Explorer 5.0
as i am typing this, the page is still trying to finish conecting to Airstramsites.com, and it gets hung up for a while while loading gif images.
I just rechecked all my settings on IE preferences, all seems normal.
My IP is sbc dsl. What prompted me to start this is the fact that all other sites load lightning fast, just this one ( my favorite) gives me headaches.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm fine too with my cable connection. Everything is speedy.

I was having problems being recognized as a member most of last week. It wasn't Andy's problem. I had no viruses. Minimal spyware was found and I cleared out 4 pieces. I didn't clear the problem until I purged my cookies and temporary internet files (IE 6.0.2800). When I restarted everything went great.

I run spy bot on all of my systems once a week. It keeps them clean and fast. I also notice that they boot and shutdown faster after cleaning.

And I did restart after doing the virus sweep (Gotta love those automatic internet updates - I have McAfee Clinics) and removing spyware -- no help.

I can't explain it but I was able to log on finally and only after purging temporary internet files and purging cookies. Maybe a corrupted cookie? But then 'puters get so mish-mashed with sofware packets, files, etc, that could just be my computer and have nothing to do with Uwe's problem.

Good luck!

... and don't install any of the "free" Internet Explorer toolbars with the extra smilies and stationery -- those are the ultimate in hobbling your machine with mega-spyware, popups, etc.!

There is a piece of freeware out there called Ad Aware 6.0. I run it weekly on my home PC. It will usually find between 17-25 little spyware nastys out there plugging away.

Thumbs up SpyBot Search & Destroy...

I tried Ad-Aware, but switched to SpyBot. It seems to catch more of the nasty buggers...

It is freeware from a German company if you Google. There are many places authorized to distribute it. This side of the ocean -- http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...d,22262,00.asp

I used to run Ad-Aware as well, with some (actually a lot of) registry entries to block certain Active-X components. Spy-Bot does it all for me now.

Another hint. I had a problem a while back, symptoms were slow scrolling in IE, and typing and having to wait for the letters to show up on the screen. Running "Cool Web Shredder" cured that problem. It seems to cure a lot of other funny IE problems too. Available here: Spywareinfo.com
