'Search' not working?
Hi, I have never had any luck with the search function. Tonight I typed "brake magnet" / "Electric brakes" / "Airstream" and all of these searches came up empty handed. Come on, there has to be something posted about Airstreams on this forum. Is this broken or could I have done something this simple incorrectly?

I entered brake magnet in the search (Google) and got plenty of hits. I prefer to use the Google search from the pull down.

Every search I did today came up empty. I resorted to google and found what I was looking for.

The search function here on the forums doesn't work very well, to put it charitably. Not so charitably, it's a useless P.O.S. that generates more false hits than a worn-out game of Battleship.
A one word search is marginally effective, but it is better to go outside the forums and use Google to search the forums from outside. It seems to be a vBulletin forum issue rather than this forum specifically. I belong to several forums that use this software, and all of them have the same complaint about searches.

I personally find that search has some strengths. Gotta get inventive to come up with single search words that may pull out just what I want. And if I have half a clue who participated in a topic, I'll designate them in the 'Search by username' field. Asking for returns by post or thread can narrow it down further. It's nice to get 8 or 10 posts to browse and find exactly what I want. Google is powerful because it let's you enclose in quotes and search on "exact phrase" -- but the results sometimes are like standing under Niagara and opening your mouth. I couldn't do without either one.
Therefore I have turned in a tech ticket to search for our missing search...

Search is back up and working by popular demand. (me!)
I should point out that my declared affection for Search is actually for Advanced Search. Try doing this in Google -- find how many times I have posted in the Fun & Games subforum. Surprised myself with the answer...

hiya bob
while i like/use the forum search there are STILL some issues today...
for example single word searches may yield ZERO hits IF restricted to SOME forum headings...
while other headings work fine.

All three of those yield "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."
Disappearing, indeed!

Hi, I guess these forum links are on a short timer of some sort. "Check it now before it disappears."
