Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda

Is it possible to start this process over? I know, it's similar to not liking the outcome of a presidential election then asking for a recount.

I should have voiced my opinion earlier... much earlier. Had I done that, I could have participated in this Tag Line process and perhaps that would have affected (effected?) the outcome. I kept hoping the non-tag-line phrases would be eliminated (before the voting started). I suspect there are many members who feel the same. Alas, shoulda... coulda... woulda...

Early on I lost interest in the proposed tag line process because I did not think they were tag lines. I've watched the subsequent voting process with a certain amount of dissapointment because many of the phrases, while very cute, do not meet Andy's definition of tag line. In the original list of of phrases only a dozen or so really identified the product and made a lasting impression. Many (most) of the phrases remaining in round 3 are interesting but they require further explanation to understand what they mean. For one reason or another they are not tag lines.

This is not intended to be a FLAME or anything personal - I just think we may have missed a very good opportunity to come up with a great tag line.

Boy, am I glad negative karma has been eliminated!

(name withheld) Just kidding.

Sorry

Hi, sorry I cannot vote in round three; As others have said, it just isn't right. But to be fair I would finish this process then start a new one to replace this one. But next time explain what we are really trying to make. I know, I really, didn't understand what was meant by a tagline.

Not to "pile on", but what's left to vote on are only catchy phrases that don't explain whe AirForums is. They are not really tag lines at all. And I only find one or two that I really even remotely like at that. I was never much interested in participating in the whole "tag line" thing (especially the first round where we were supposed to somehow select the best 20?), but now I've gone from disinterested to disappointed. Sorry, but that's MY opinion.

I'm really glad I asked. Airstream, built tough; Built to last; Quality is job one?No, those are already taken by some other companies so we probably wouldn't want to use those as it might be confusing. LOL

Joe, I'm somewhat with you because from my viewpoint, I didn't want to see the tag line become an "inside joke". Essentially you have to be part of the Airstream community to understand what it means. I was hoping that the tag line, for the uninformed would give the a thumbnail view of what we are about.

ya yes like?

answers, adventures and airstreams....

or

we chat, we camp, we shine.....

or

click here for all things airstream...

or

the ultimate site for the ultimate travel trailer...

or

airforums.com the knowledge, sharing and online rally never ends...

airforums.com where airstreamers connect

good or bad are these actually taglines?

see more, do more, live more is one of a/s current taglines and some days i like it.

so how 'bout...

airforums.com

share more, learn more, connect more
or
connect more, learn more, camp more....

since the official forum name is NOW somewhat of an 'inside joke' it seems the tag line MUST be more descriptive or explanatory,
and deciding not to use ANY derivative of the a/s word is a real challenge.

we are ALL airstreamers.....so surely we can use some forms of the word...

airforums.com the silver 'streaming community...

airforums.com where every trailer has a silver lining...

perhaps a better approach is go back to the original list or run a new list.

delete EVERYTHING that isn't actually a tag line phrase, or ask the author to tweak so if fits the definition....

then select the better ones by voting.

cheers
2air'

then of course there are the issues of new/old, arg/air, silver/painted, camping/restorations, aluminum/fiberglass/steel, trailer/moho, and so on....

a short descriptive tagline without ANY variation of the a/s word AND that is all inclusive is tuff...

don't we have any members with media training/skills/talent?

on edit,
i notice "the airstream knowledge sharing forums" still appears at the top of every page/portal and so on...
this is STILL a great phrase/tagline and remains in use.
is it going to vanish with the 'new coke' tag line?
i sure hope that catchy line continues because it really works.

The working effective tagline is NOT easy. I agree with Joe and Jack.
Most of the tage lines are "cute". A tag line needs to work with the Forum and be easy memorable and tell the story..

Andy perhaps we could consider this a practice session? And now that we know the word Airstream cannot be used and all know what tag line REALLY should be... we would come up with an appropriate tage line. Let's go for a vote on ...new tage line submissions?

I believe WE CAN DO BETTER. We have many in the Forum that are qualified to work on the tag line.

I think we have all learned alot about tag lines.
From Wikipedia here are a few examples:
Examples of famous movie/television taglines are:
  • AlienIn space, no one can hear you scream.
  • Jaws 2Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.
  • Star TrekTo boldly go where no man has gone before.
  • Star WarsA long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
  • Love StoryLove means never having to say you're sorry.
  • The X-FilesThe truth is out there.
Notable corporate branding taglines include:With this in mind I "borrowed" a tag line and modified it for this forum:

You can tow it, we can help

Let's Try Again ...

I agree with those who are disappointed in the Round 3 selections; they're cute but uninformative to the uninitiated. We need something succinct like:

"All About Aluminum Trailers"

and silently include the rest of the Airstream family in, on or under the tag line's skirt or coattails, depending on your dress preferences.

So many afterthoughts, including: "AIRforums: all you need to tow it and know it." Can we start again now that we know what a "tagline" is? Huh, please?

It's too bad that a tagline is critical for identifying who we are, the name Airstream forums really did a great job of that.

Sorry, I don't have either, but it sort of sounds like it together.

I just wanted to let you all who voiced your opinions that we are discussing some options. This poll will stay open for some time as we determine the best path to take.

Thanks for voicing your passion for our community and desire to make sure we have the very best tagline.

I request to wihdraw from consideration...

Andy, After much thought... and considering the sour grapes comments of those who had their submitted taglines rejected by the votes as well as those who after three rounds of voting now have suddenly found " A Better Idea!" as to a tagline for the AirForums, I am requesting you to withdraw my submission of: "All Aluminum All the Time" from consideration. I no longer wish to participate in a tagline contest that will be thrown out after the voters have spoken due to the complaints of some, who now have so many better ideas, after the candidates were chosen and the votes were being tallied! I am sorry that I even thought that this contest could be judged fairly by the members at large instead of by the few who want it their way or no way. Please remove my tagline from your contest. Thank you, Ed

Come on Ed,,,it is all just healthy desention. what do you expect from a horde of Airstreamers..of course they are always gonna rebell against the standard. I sure like your tagline...does that count? I think the folks who are voicing concern just want to make sure that the forum gets a handle that supports the growth and success of such a great meeting place...and by the vote, I would say that a lot of people think your tagline does the job.

John
