Questionable E-Mail

I received an e-mail regarding my airforum account. It said that I needed to update my account information to complete activation of my account. Is this a legit e-mail?

I got burned on a similar type a while back and someone took over my e-mail account and locked me out.

Would appreciate some information.

How long have you been a member here? I'd say your account is already active. Please forward the email (with all headers) to one of the moderators so they can take a look at it.

Unless the email came from one of the moderation staff, it's undoubtedly bogus. Can you forward it to me please? Thanks!

You should

Contact a moderator and Andy R. to check this out before responding to it. Sounds like a hoax to me. I have not received that message. Anyone else?

Hi Joe, You have an active account at Airforums. Can you forward the e-mail to me or one of the Moderators here on Airforums? This is odd.

I am sure that is exactly what would happen this time too if you responded.

At least the messages I get requesting all my personal info are willing to forward several million dollars to me .

Ken

Our moderators are totally ethical regarding private data. That being said -- gaylejoe, I googled with your email address in the search field. Try it. None of the hits trace back to you ever having revealed your email addy at AIR.

Everyone -- this is a good exercise. Google your own email. Craigslist or wherever... Anywhere your email is 'out there' on the web, try to get it removed. Once you've found willing webmasters it may take 2-3 weeks before Google refreshes their database and you do not show up again. Try to keep it that way. Operating below the radar is never underrated...

[on edit: punctuation like @ or . periods seems to break up search terms into individual components. For exact search on your email addy, surround it with quotes; eg, "you-me@whatmail.com"]

IIRC -- emails about expiring supporting member status are titled, 'Paid Subscription Expiry Notice.' Andy R has set a policy that each member must make a choice to renew each year. There is no automated renewal/rollover.

gaylejoe -- PM coming your way on your period of supporting membership

right, my reference was to the 'automatically generated email/reminder' that's sent out.

poorly worded, but it is an automatic email that is legit and does NOT come directly from one of the mods...

correct?

i'm expecting to see it any time now but have 4gotten the exactly wording, seems it's signed by the owners/staff team?

and arrives a few days before the 20$ account features expire...

cheers

This is a scam and an attempt to get more info. from you. I received the exact same email but for my Pay Pal account. Friends have received it for their bank account, etc.

Your email address is on how many friends' & associates' computers? All it takes is malware on one to harvest an email address. Caution is not just a black & yellow road sign... Good y'all were acting savvy.

So what do you do, email the webmaster to every site it shows up on? Won't it show back up after using the site again? Of course the first thing to pop up is AirForums!
