Question for Admin?

Could someone tell me why when I try to post on a topic this forum kicks me out and says I'm not logged in? It doesn't happen all the time but most of the time. What am I doing that it doesn't like?

The issue is Win 7 probably. It's oooooold and unsupported and some forum functions will have compatibility issues. Win 7 is also fairly unsecure these days. Please consider updating to 10.

Win 7 is totally obsolete and has a high security risk, upgrade to 10 if you can if your machine is not upgradeable 8 would seriously consider replacing.

Thank you for the advice Janet. I will be checking that box from now on a see if that works. It is very frustrating to type a page and lose it all. The last time this happened I checked to see if I was still logged in before I posted and I was, but it kicked me out. Anyway thanks again!

Airhead, if you are drafting a fairly long post, you can post/save the basic starting text, and then edit/update it over the next 10 minutes or so. You can put something like this at the end of the draft: "more coming on edit please stand by" so that other posters on the thread don't Quote you as you are working on further edits.

Another way to handle long posts is to write them in WORD or Pages, and then copy them into an AF post. This gives you plenty of time, and is handy for formatting special text situations.

Hey Janet,
I am all ready to do as you suggested but there is no "remember me" box coming up for me to tick. Does this mean that I may have already done this at some earlier point?

OTRA15 thanks for the advise! I actually have used word before and it works every time. My post are usually short so I just type it and hope for the best.

If you don't log out at the end of a prior Internet session, then yes, this site's cookie stays on your computer/device until you open the site again.

The bad news aspect of this -- in my opinion -- is that it implies that you do not make a regular practice out of deleting all cookies, clearing history, and cleaning your Internet cache.

Is this the case?

If so, you are leaving yourself wide open -- IMO -- to all kinds of privacy and security problems. Sorry if I have guessed incorrectly here, but the safety issues deserve to be on the table ASAP. I proactively do the various steps listed above about every hour, then re-boot the laptop. Years ago I went through an agonizing month on an old PC clearing out Trojan Horses, malware, etc.. Hope to avoid that again.

Thanks for the WORD update.

Good luck,

Peter

Airhead, I had this exact problem a couple months ago. I've been hanging around here for years and this just started happening all of a sudden one evening. I found the solution in an old thread that, of course, I can't find now.

Follow these steps:

Log out of Airforums using the link in the upper right of the page in the blue banner. (Right under your login name)

Clear the cookies in your browser.

Close your browser.

Reopen your browser, navigate back to Airforums.

Log back in to Airforums. You will see the "remember me" box when you log back in.

You should be good to go at that point.

As I recall, actually logging out, then clearing the cache and then closing the browser were somehow key to this. Follow that sequence in other words.

Good luck!

Jim

An hourly practice here, as noted earlier, plus re-booting the laptop. Privacy and safety first.

OK, I did what Peter and Jim suggested but still no box appears. The only box that I get is Microsoft Edge asking if I want it to remember my password, to which I say no. I log in and log out after every session. I will try this again in case I'm doing this incorrectly.

Thanks for the update . . . guessing you still may have missed a step or two . . . unless Janet has some other ideas.

Does Windows 10 have some weird super-protection for cookies, or some unique process for getting rid of cookies and history? I went over to Apple/Mac a long time ago, after too many Microsoft browser problems, so my earlier advice was definitely Mac/Firefox specific FWIW.

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- After doing the various cleaning steps, are you re-booting your computer, to reset the RAM?

The process seems straight forward to me Peter. Control Panel, Internet Options, Delete Browser History, etc. Windows 10 is liable to be watching my every move immediately countering my every move for all I know.

[ . . . measuring twice in order to cut once accurately . . . . . . ]

Does "Delete Browser History" include deleting cookies?

Are you re-booting your computer to reset the RAM?

And yes BG may be watching . . .

PS -- Is there some place where Edge stores your passwords? You may have to go there and delete them?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...rowser-history
Edge Legacy: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ft-edge-legacy

Do you have other computers/devices which are syncing with all this? That may complicate things IMO. See article above about your computer vs. cloud process. Guessing you have the cloud option enabled, and it keeps reverting to that saved data?

"Data that you delete on the privacy dashboard won’t be deleted from your device."

What?
