Angry Pop-Up Ads

What is going on with all the pop-up ads. There are random words that are double underlined that throw up pop-ups and open new pages with ads (and other things I don't even know what I have done). All the pop-ups, new pages and shifting ads in the margins is making this web site unusable. Is this the new norm???

Perhaps it is your computer. No problem on my Mac with Safari or iPhone with Safari.

Ray,

Thanks for the reply. This has just recently become a problem over the last week. I use Chrome and I went into settings and set it to block these pop-ups. It have not worked. I also use a VPN which should keep all of this out. It seems like airforums has changed something which is allowing this stuff through.

(Not sure if you can see this, but VPN and block are double underlined in the preview of my answer to you.)

Your computer may have become infected with adware or malware. I would run a pass of malware-bytes.

All good here on a mac with firefox. Don't see the underlines in your post, looks normal. I suspect some malware as well. Any issues on other websites, or just here?

I don't see it either. PC with Windows 10, usually using Edge, Opera or Firefox. Don't much like Chrome.

I am on a PC with Windows 10 and ESET Smart Security software. I ran the scan and no bugs detected. I also have Microsoft Edge on the computer as a browser. I signed into Airforums with Edge and there are no pop-ups like with Chrome. I guess that is my answer.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Admin - you have a problem with Chrome users.

You need a good ad blocker. Unfortunately, browsers will update to disable blockers because the browser sells ads. Or I should say, allows certain ads.
I use Safari, and currently use Adguard. The best was "U-Block Origin", but Safari made that unusable.

DaveP, glad to hear a change of browser fixed your problem.

But, Admins, I'm not sure Chrome users are universally afflicted.

Seemingly, everyone's hardware/software config is different. I use Chrome and Add Blocker Plus on a Windows 10 machine and have never had a problem with adds. In fact, I was surprised this thread popped up, so to speak.

ABP puts up a little icon which displays how many adds it is blocking. 8 for this thread, which dropped to 5 when I opened the reply window. You can click on the little icon and authorize adds if you are required to do so to view content (like news articles at news agencies).

Add Blocker Plus is free if you choose to use it.

Best to all.

One possibility is that there's a marketing network out there that's pushing out all of these pop-ups, and the network has figured out a way around Ad Blocker. Just out of curiousity, you might want to keep track of what the products are. You won't be able to find out who the network is, but Ad Blocker sure can, and adjust accordingly.

Everyone hates internet marketing, just like everyone hates fire ants. But if you think about (either of) them in an ecological perspective, you have to be amazed at their abilities to respond and adapt.

I use Chrome with no blockers & Safari with Malwarebytes Premium. Been using it for a year now, best I've tried so far.
Safari has the problem Chrome does not, the random underlined words show up only on chrome.

Just as a follow-up, I installed Malwarebytes Premium and it solved most of my issues. Thanks again for all the inputs.

You should not be seeing popup ads or invasive ones that hijack your browser. If you are: Try doing a system restart to purge any unwanted ad cookies. If they persist, if you can get me the url of thee specific ad, I can do a little digging. We specifically disallow these kinds of ads with google and so I'd like to know if one has slipped in.
