On my camera (LG), although the picture looks OK on the camera, when it's uploaded to my laptop, the orientation will be landscape with the camera rotated to the left. I have to manually rotate the image after it's been uploaded.
I think that if the smart phone is held rotated to the left from the vertical, in landscape mode, the picture will always be correct. My LG has an auto-rotate feature so that even if you hold it upside down, it appears to be correct, but the image is always rotated to landscape even if it's taken portrait mode.
This gets a little confusing but if you experiment with your smart phone, rotating it, you'll probably find, like I did, there's a correct way to hold it. I took a video that was 90 degrees rotated. I've since learned to hold the phone rotated to the left, in landscape. It gives you a nice wide picture too.
