Picture Posting Question

I frequently add pictures to my posts. When doing so a page called "Manage Attachments" opens and I upload a given picture from my computer.

All well and good.

However Manage Attachments page retains several of my last pictures uploaded but I can not seam to find a way to open them to see if the picture I want to attach is already on file. Is there a way to look at those pictures already on file?

hi howieE...

yes, but not quickly.

-go to the user CP...

-scroll WAY DOWN ON THE LEFT...

-note the link "attachments" it's the very last link on the left.

this will take u to ALL of your attachements ever added.

for some of us that is 1000s of pictures and u cannot search them or scan them by name.

otoh IF you create a folder on your pc and make it a habit to save a copy of each attached item there...

u can search/find them pretty easily...

cheers

Hi 2air

Yes but if make a folder on my PC and upload from it aren't I still just adding to the number of pictures already on the Air server since I did not upload from it?

I was looking for a way to reduce the total number of my pictures on the server by not having duplicates there.

I looked at the attachment file. They are filed by date uploaded. Most of my uploads are from my camera and thus due not have a title but rather a camera number. Searching for a given picture already uploaded is not that easy given the title used.

I played with this to see if I could rename the pictures already uploaded. I can't. Not only can I not rename them I can't find a way to delete the duplicates.

Howie, you have an unlimited attachment space as a supporting member. Going back over and assisting you with manually replacing attachment types would be overwhelming. Better to leave the past alone and make other plans as you go forward. Moore's Law has brought us along to this point with significant capacity to address current needs. We should be in good shape whatever you do -- unless we change technology and attempt to grow our storage capacity from the overpressed corn crop.

I think I see the reasoning. Having looked at my upload history it looks like the software treats an upload as an attachment to a given post and thus could not be shared with other posts. I had assumed them to be like a gallery and thus could be selected for use in more than one application.

Thanks Mr. Moore you are one step ahead of me.

Send a message via AIM to Pick
When posting picture online, I resize them with Paint Shop Pro, then after the picture is the desired PHYSICAL size, I reduce the file size with JPEG Optimizer.

they can be shared with other posts.

from the attachment area, find the pic in question and open it.

copy/paste the LINK into the new post.

the picture won't appear in the new post, but the link will...

and anyone clicking the link is taken to the picture for viewing...

yo bob and the mod squad...

as i recall the user agreement playground roolz, suggests NOT posting the same picture multiple times...

if it really is OK now to do that, it might be time to revise the admonition...

cheers
