Photo Programs

I want to start posting some photos of my repairs. I have noticed alot of you put in the arrows and text to point out items in the photos. What program do you use for that? I am damn near computer illeterate so make it simple! Also, how do you spell check before posting, I am a lousy speller. Thanks

I write the posts in MS Word, then cut and paste them into the message box after running a spell check. This is a good way to save your work in case the forum message box times out.

When you create or respond to a thread, there is a spell checker built into the text box. It's the button at the top right above the smiles emoticons. It's the one with the ABC above the check mark. It will have to install the first time you use it, but after that just click on it an it will spell check your post.

I use Adobe Photoshop for photo manipulation, which is one of the best out there. There are free applications available that will allow basic photo manipulation that you might look into such as Paint. It's an easy to use program that comes with Windows.

For adding text and arrows to photos, I use Paint Shop Pro by Jasc Software.
I use IESpell because I am one of the world's worst spellers. One problem is that if you misspell a word bad enough, it might be a valid word.

Send a message via Yahoo to Jim Foster
If you use Firefox as your browser it will spell check your posts.

So would I be correct in assuming that the best way is to do my work in MS Work, Do a copy and then paste in this message box instead of typing directly here? Also, there is no abc with a check mark above my Smilies. Sorry to be a pain.

If you're going to get into photo editing, the biggest factor is the learning curve you go through, and the ime and struggles you invest in learning. In the long run, you want to go with an industry leader, so your learning efforst are never wasted. The answer is therefore: Adobe Photoshop. Buy the "Elements" version to save $$$, and get a used copy of rev. 3 or rev. 4 to really save $$$. You won't regret the decision...

It's possible you are not using the Enhanced Interface. If you go to your User Options in User CP, there is a Miscellaneous Options that includes a Message Editor Interface selection. Select the Enhanced Interface option if it allows you to. It's use depends on the internet browser you are using.

A friend of mine uses GIMP GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program. It's free and has a good reputation. I have the full Adobe Creative Suite, which included Photoshop, so I haven't tried it myself.

I'm a big fan of Photo Impact which has been recently bundled with some other Corel products. But for really simple, fast addition of arrows and text on an image, nothing beats Snagit Screen Capture | SnagIt | TechSmith's Screen Capture Software
it's cheap easy and practically fool proof.
