Well.........I clicked on my Airstreamforums bookmark, and an ad for NetZero was what opened up!!! I hit the "reload" button, and the Airstreamforums page opened up! Personally, I find this unacceptable. Is there another way to display ads, if they are necessary to support the site? Meanwhile....ADblock will be installed on my Firefox....

Annoying, intrusive, persistent, crap

I got the ad yesterday (so far not today).

Just suddenly the Forum disappeared and some strange website came up. No obvious way to close it out. Pressing the Back button took me back to the Forum, then a second latter it again jumped to the strange website. I though I'd been hacked.

It is hijacking, claiming to be something for my benefit.

You can't force me to read or accept an undesired website, all you do with that kind of advertising is make me angry. Anger at the advertiser cannot lead to sales. Lessening the otherwise good experience on the Forum would drive me away from the Forum.

Andy will be working on this since there is something not working correctly at this point. All of us are seeing this....including the moderators. Obviously this is not a good thing. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Add my displeasure to the long list. Ads may be necessary but this is over the top!

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Andy, it cannot get fixed soon enough. I just had a very difficult time getting rid of it. It acts like it has a "mind" of it's own.

I have to say I was a little mystified by the pop up as well. For the last three days it has been poping up. Can't wait until it is fixed.

Unhappy Please remove the popup ads

Not a happy forums user today. Keep getting the newly installed popup ads. I've got my popup blocker(s) set to the highest blocking level and I'm still getting these fool ads.

And oh, I will never knowingly purchase from a vendor who ads are being displayed in popups on the forums site.

I don't mind the google ads, as they are not "in my face" like the new popup ads. In fact I just purchased a new exterior mat for my Airstream from RVAwningMats.com - a non popup add on the forums. Good price, fast service and large selection.

Andy,
The ad system renders this board useless! It Just hijacks and takes over. You're reading a post on a long thread and wam-O. Had to close my browser and reload, unable to back out.
I hope you will re-evaluate your decision to use adbrite.

I along with many other users find these types of ads invasive and intolerable, especially in a informational forum setting such as this. You'll probably see a marked reduction to the number of forum participants if this style of advertising continues.

Exclamation Fix It ...

Why not try this ... (if you print these instructions it may be easier for you)

Download Ad-Aware SE Personal edition 1.06 from HERE

After loaded, check for updates then select Full or Smart system scan.
Click NEXT
When scan is complete click NEXT.
Click on the box next to Tracking Cookies” (TAC 3) Leave the MRU list alone.
Click NEXT & Quarantine all the tracking cookies.
Open the quarantine list and double click on the TAC 3 items (tracking cookies) to open the display.
Leave the MRU list alone.
This will then display the tracking cookies placed in your magic box!!

You can then open your explorer. At the top go to tools and drag down to Internet Options.
Go to the PRIVACY Tab and click SITES.
Copy from the opened quarantine list all the addresses after the “@ sign” and paste them into the space in the Internet Options window that is for “address of web sites” and CLICK BLOCK.
Do that one at a time to each of the tracking cookies.

Your pop-up blocker may still give you notice of an attempted pop-up, but this has eliminated 99 & 44/100 % of the ones I used to get.

Or get your check book out & fix it!

For IE users: In IE under Tools/Privacy tab, set the privacy level to custom. You can then list sites you never want to accept cookies from (same as mentioned above in the firefox posts). Under the advanced tab you can override automatic cookie handling, and set it to only accept first party cookies, and always reject third party cookies.

I don't know if this is the key, but I am not seeing these ads at all. We have had problems with hijackers before, and these are the settings I settled on after some trial and error. So it might be worth trying before you load up a bunch of third party ad blockers to see if it will stop the ads.

If it doesn't work you can always set it back, but I think rejecting third party cookies is always a good idea. I figure if I didn't ask for it, they shouldn't be putting it on my computer!

Hopefully Andy will get this fixed soon...

I am not getting them at all. I don't know why I am not. But I hardly ever get any pop-ups so my controls must be set just right by luck.
Hate it for the rest of you because I have no idea how to explain why I am not having any pop-ups...

You are not getting any pop-ups because they were discontinued earlier today. A good thing, too.
